19 years after their 2003 wedding was called off, Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck are engaged to be married, again.

Lopez shared a video late Friday to announce the big news.

“So I have a really exciting and special story to share,” Lopez said in a video posted to her social media accounts with the caption “Major announcement!!!!” as she pointed fans to “It is my inner circle where I share my more personal things and this one’s definitely on the JLo.”

The singer and actor, 52, shared the news with fans via her OnTheJLo newsletter.

The video shows Lopez admiring the ring, saying quietly, “You’re perfect.” Affleck affianced her with a ring featuring two smaller diamonds on each side of a large green diamond in the middle — a different shade from the pink diamond with which he proposed the first time in 2002.

The news comes a year after the pair publicly rekindled the romance after almost  20 years apart.

Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez To Perform At Biden Inauguration

Gaga, Biden, and Lopez

Pop superstar Lady Gaga will sing the national anthem during Joe Biden’s swearing-in as US president on January 20, with Jennifer Lopez also performing at the largely virtual event, it was announced Thursday.

The two music icons will headline an inauguration like no other, with security stepped up in Washington against threats by extremist supporters of outgoing President Donald Trump after they attacked the US Capitol last week in a bid to overturn the results of the election.

Local authorities are asking people to stay away from the ceremonies to lessen the chances of unrest — and of the swearing-in turning into a Covid-19 superspreader event.

Instead, Biden’s inaugural committee said that it will broadcast five days of programming under the theme “America United” which “will honor inaugural traditions while safely allowing more Americans than ever before to participate from their own homes.”

The calendar includes “United We Serve,” a National Day of Service on January 18, Martin Luther King Jr. Day; a nationwide COVID-19 Memorial to Lives Lost on January 19; and wreath laying at Arlington National Cemetery on Inauguration Day.

In place of the hundreds of thousands of people who usually crowd the National Mall for the inauguration, the committee will install a “Field of Flags” which it said will “represent the American people who are unable to travel.”

The 90-minute “Celebrating America” inauguration show will be hosted by Tom Hanks and feature more musical performances, from Jon Bon Jovi, Justin Timberlake and Demi Lovato, and will be broadcast on all major US networks, US media reported.

Gaga and Lopez will perform during the ceremony itself, held on the steps of the Capitol building, which still bears the scars of the January 6 attack.

Gaga has been a vocal supporter of Biden, appearing at his campaign finale in Pittsburgh in November; while Lopez has been outspoken in recent months about Covid-19 relief efforts.

Some 20,000 National Guard soldiers are expected in Washington for Biden’s inauguration. The capital is already under heavy security, with much of downtown fenced off and under guard.

Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser has asked visitors to stay home due to the raging pandemic, and Airbnb has banned bookings in the capital around the time of the inauguration.

Aretha Franklin sang at Barack Obama’s first inauguration in 2009, while Beyonce performed at his second four years later.

Trump — who on Wednesday became the first president to be impeached for a second time for inciting the Capitol “insurrection” — had to settle for less well-known artists in 2017 due to his unpopularity in the entertainment world. Country singer Toby Keith headlined the event.

The outgoing president, who claims the election was rigged to deny him victory, will not attend the inauguration.

Jennifer Lopez, Shakira To Headline National Football Halftime Show

Multi-faceted sensation Jennifer Lopez and pop star Shakira on Thursday announced on social media that they will be headlining the National Football League’s Super Bowl halftime show in Miami next year.

“It doesn’t get any bigger than this! So excited about getting on that #SuperBowlLIV #PepsiHalftime stage!” Shakira wrote.

Lopez in  a press statement said: “Ever since I saw Diana Ross fly off into the sky at the Halftime Show, I dreamed of performing at the Super Bowl. And now it’s made even more special not only because it’s the NFL’s 100th anniversary, but also because I am performing with a fellow Latina. I can’t wait to show what us girls can do on the world’s biggest stage.”

The Super Bowl will take place February 2, 2020, at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida.

The 50-year-old Lopez — who is currently basking in the success of her much-lauded performance in the recently released film “Hustlers” — dropped the news in a tweeted photo of her and Shakira, sporting matching metallic gold tube tops and black leather pants, saying with emojis that they were going to “set the world on fire.”

The Latina superstars will be part of the NFL’s bid to rebuild its embattled halftime show — one of pop music’s most visible gigs — which last year struggled to secure performers over the treatment of former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick.

Kaepernick, who has not played in the NFL since opting out of his contract with the San Francisco 49ers in March 2017, began kneeling in protest of social injustice and racial inequality during pre-game renditions of the US national anthem three years ago.

The move became a talking point for Donald Trump in September 2017, with the US president saying the players were insulting the nation and should be fired.

The 2019 halftime show saw the performance slot go from highly coveted to largely unwanted, with prominent artists including Rihanna, P!nk and Cardi B reportedly turning it down over Kaepernick’s plight.

The radio-friendly pop band Maroon 5 controversially led the marquee show alongside rappers Travis Scott and Big Boi.

In August, the NFL entered a partnership with rapper Jay-Z, which the league hailed as a move to promote social justice and the artist said would allow the league to advance from protest to action.

But many criticized Jay-Z’s deal with the NFL, with some calling it a “money move” that betrayed Kaepernick, whom the entertainment mogul had thrown his weight behind in the past.

Jay-Z’s music and sports company Roc Nation represents Shakira.

Singing superstar Jennifer Lopez and retired baseball great Alex Rodriguez have been one of the most glam celebrity couples in recent years. Fans, get ready: a J-Rod wedding is on the cards.

Lopez and Rodriguez confirmed on Instagram late Saturday that they are engaged.

Both posted a picture of their hands at sunset, with Lopez’s enormous diamond ring.

While the multi-hyphenate singer-actress-dancer-producer only captioned the pic with heart emojis, Rodriguez went a bit farther, writing in lower-case letters: “she said yes.”

Lopez, 49, and Rodriguez, 43, have been a couple for about two years.

Lopez, currently the executive producer and judge on NBC reality dance competition show “World of Dance,” is set to go on tour later this year across North America. She wrapped up a Vegas residency in 2018.

She has been married three times: to Ojani Noa, back-up dancer Cris Judd, and singer Marc Anthony, with whom she has 11-year-old twins. She also had a high-profile relationship with actor Ben Affleck.

Rodriguez retired from Major League Baseball in 2016, after a lengthy career, mostly with the New York Yankees. He won one World Series title with the Yankees and was an All-Star 14 times.

His achievements were tarnished by his admission that he used performance-enhancing drugs. He was suspended for the entire 2014 season.

Rodriguez currently works as an on-air baseball analyst.

He has been married once. He and ex-wife Cynthia Scurtis have two daughters.

Celebrities including Marc Anthony, Jennifer Lopez and Stevie Wonder are set to appear Saturday night at a telethon for those affected by Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria.

Appearing from both Miami and Los Angeles, performers will raise funds to provide food, shelter, medicine, electricity and communications to areas affected by the storms, organizers said Wednesday.

Artists including Marc Anthony, Gente de Zona, Nicky Jam, Prince Royce, Romeo Santos, Alejandro Sanz and Daddy Yankee will perform at Miami’s Marlins Park, with tickets priced between $15 and $50.

Meanwhile, Puerto Rican singer Jennifer Lopez and Dominican baseball player Alex Rodriguez will host from NBC in Los Angeles, where they will be joined by stars from film, television and music — among them Ricky Martin, Demi Lovato, Gwen Stefani, Stevie Wonder and Jamie Foxx.

The telethon, named “One Voice: Somos Live!,” will be simultaneously broadcast on NBC and the United States’ two primary Spanish-language channels — Univision and Telemundo.

The announcement comes after electronic group Major Lazer Wednesday announced a concert, also in Miami, to raise money for aid groups that will focus on all parts of the Caribbean, including smaller islands that can be overlooked.

In August and September, Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria ravaged areas of the southern United States and Mexico — and devastated the Caribbean islands, particularly Dominica, with 17,000 inhabitants, and Puerto Rico, population 3.4 million.

Jason Aldean, Jennifer Lopez Cancel Shows After Las Vegas Shooting

Country star Jason Aldean said on Tuesday (October 3) he would cancel three shows this week to honor victims of the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history in which a gunman opened fire on a crowd at a Las Vegas music festival during the singer’s performance.

Aldean canceled stops in Los Angeles, San Diego and Anaheim, California, as part of his “They Don’t Know Tour.” The tour will resume in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on Oct. 12 and refunds will be offered for the canceled shows.

“I feel like out of respect for the victims, their families and our fans, it is the right thing to do. It has been an emotional time for everyone involved this week, so we plan to take some time to mourn the ones we have lost and be close with our family and friends,” Aldean said in a statement.

The singer added: “Our first time back onstage will be a very tough and emotional thing for us, but we will all get through it together and honor the people we lost by doing the only thing we know how to do – play our songs for them.”

Aldean was on stage on Sunday night at the Route 91 Harvest country music festival when Stephen Paddock, a retiree armed with multiple assault rifles, strafed the crowd at the concert from a high-rise hotel window, killing 59 people. The massacre left more than 525 people injured.

Jennifer Lopez, currently in her “Jennifer Lopez: All I Have” residency at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas, also canceled her scheduled shows this week. The performances will be rescheduled for later dates.

“Jennifer is heartbroken that such a senseless tragedy occurred. Her thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families,” the singer’s representatives said in a statement on Tuesday.

Organizers of the Austin City Limits Music Festival in Texas said on Tuesday they would offer refunds to people who no longer want to attend for security concerns after the Las Vegas shooting.

Earlier this week, Warner Bros. said it would scale back Tuesday’s world premiere of sci-fi film “Blade Runner 2049” after the Las Vegas tragedy, canceling the red carpet, where stars chat to reporters and pose for photos.

ESPN’s “Monday Night Football” and ABC’s Monday episode of “Dancing With the Stars” both opened with a moment of silence for the victims of the tragedy.

Jay-Z, Jennifer Lopez Headline Hurricane Benefit Show

Rap mogul Jay-Z and pop superstar Jennifer Lopez will headline a concert in New York to raise funds for survivors of hurricanes that have devastated the United States and the Caribbean.

Tidal, the streaming service led by Jay-Z, on Wednesday announced the line-up of the show that will take place on October 17 in Brooklyn’s Barclays Center arena.

Lopez, born in New York to parents from Puerto Rico, recently donated $1 million to relief for Hurricane Maria, which has brought catastrophic damage to the island’s electricity and other infrastructure.

The concert’s hip-hop-heavy lineup will also feature rappers DJ Khaled, Cardi B, Joey Bada$$, Belly, Iggy Azalea, Vic Mensa and Daddy Yankee — the Puerto Rican rapper who was part of the viral global hit “Despacito.”

Performers of other genres include the electronic artist Kaskade, R&B singer Chris Brown and pop group Fifth Harmony.

Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria, which all carried monstrous ferocity, battered the Caribbean and parts of the United States in quick succession starting last month.

Jay-Z’s wife Beyonce, who recently gave birth to twins and is not scheduled to perform, earlier promised long-term help for her hometown Houston as it rebuilds from Harvey.

Jennifer Lopez Delivers Passionate Plea For Puerto Rico’s Hurricane Relief

Jennifer Lopez is calling for her fans to do what they can to help the people of Puerto Rico after the island suffered massive destruction following Hurricane Maria’s landfall.

The singer took to Instagram on Thursday night to deliver a passionate plea for support for the nation’s relief efforts.

“What’s on my mind is what’s going on in Puerto Rico. The devastation is beyond belief,” said Lopez, who is currently in Las Vegas for her residency show. “Me and my cousin still haven’t been able to hear from our families over there.”

“Today, Puerto Rico needs our help. I urge you to support and donate to the efforts of the First Lady of Puerto Rico, Beatriz Areizaga,” she shared. “Together we can help rebuild our island, and the Caribbean.”

Hurricane Maria, which has killed at least 15 people in Puerto Rico and 20 more in several other Caribbean islands, comes on the heels of the immensely powerful Hurricane Irma, which tore through Puerto Rico before causing massive damage in Florida and claimed the lives of at least 84 people in the Caribbean and the U.S.

Before sharing her own video, Lopez reposted a similar plea recorded by her ex-husband and friend Marc Anthony, who also encouraged viewers to donate and support relief efforts.

Despite the destruction caused by Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria, there are still two months remaining in the Atlantic hurricane season, which continues through Nov. 30.

Brazilians Angered As World Cup Song Fails To Thrill Fans

World Cup - Ole OlaThe official 2014 World Cup song is striking the wrong chord with many in host country Brazil.

Since the release of FIFA’s “We Are One (Ole Ola),” fans in Brazil have been slamming the official theme.

Many expressed their frustration on Twitter under the tag #VoltaWakaWaka, a plea for the return of the widely loved song that Colombian artiste, Shakira performed for the 2010 tournament in South Africa.

Although Brazilian Claudia Leitte is also featured in the official theme, critics say they don’t understand why Cuban-American rapper Pitbull and Bronx-born Puerto Rican singer, Jennifer Lopez were chosen for the song when there are many other great musicians in the land of Bossa Nova.

They also complain that the song is mostly done in English and Spanish, leaving only a few seconds at the end for Leitte to sing in her native Portuguese.

“What I don’t like about the music is that it’s a poor, dull, generic pop theme,” said Gaia Passarelli, a Brazilian music journalist and a former VJ for MTV Brazil. “It’s a shame considering Brazil’s rich musical tradition, which is admired all over the world.”

“In the end, we lost a chance to do something rich, inspiring and cool. I’m feeling ‘saudades’ for Shakira,” Passarelli said, using a Portuguese word that translates as painful longing.

“In my many visits to this country, I’ve heard a lot about the great Brazilian music tradition and it gives me great pleasure to see a Brazilian artist at the heart of this song,” FIFA Secretary General Jerome Valcke emphasized Leitte’s involvement with the song.

The song’s video features images of Brazil’s icons like Rio’s Christ the Redeemer statue as well as Brazilian soccer stars. But critics say it also reinforces stereotypes with smiling, barefoot children and semi-naked, samba-dancing women.

Naming an official FIFA song dates back to the 1966 Cup in England. “The music in other World Cups was also stripped of local colour,” said Leonardo Martinelli, a composer and music critic who lives in Sao Paulo.

“Whether it’s in South Africa, Germany or Japan-Korea, the regional musical element was used only as a very light seasoning, just enough to give it a discreet local colour,” he said. “In the case of this latest song, the seasoning has its right amount of clichés and stereotypes usual with commercial music.”
