The Only Thing That Will Help Nigerians Now Is Comedy – Julius Agwu


At a time when Nigeria is witnessing some economic and security challenges, comedian, Julius Agwu, has advised Nigerians to embrace comedy.

In an interview with Channels Television’s Entertainment News on Friday, he explained that Nigerian music and comedy have come a long way, with many artistes and comedians making their mark both locally and internationally.

He, however, said that there is now more need for comedy as the nation goes through some tough times.

“The fact is that considering the circumstances Nigeria is facing now, the only thing that can help anybody who is a Nigerian and not just only Nigerians, is comedy.

“When you think of all the bad things, just go and laugh. Laugh it out,” he said.

Agwu who was away due to health reasons, says he is back, bigger and better.

The 13th edition of his annual ‘Crack Ya Ribs‘ comedy show, took place in London on Sunday.

Julius AgwuNigerian comedian Julius Agwu had an exclusive chat with Channels TV’s UK correspondent, Doris Okenwa, ahead of his Crack Ya Ribs concert in London.

He speaks about how fans are wondering if he can perform up to expectation, especially since he is recovering from a brain tumor surgery, which was done in the U.S some weeks ago.

Julius said his upcoming show was “another way of telling people that in spite of everything you pass through you should be thankful to God”.

Friends and family members have started arriving in Oba, Anambra State ahead of the ceremony (in Nnewi) which will make Ifeoma Umeokeke an official member of the Okoye Dynasty.

D’banj Crowned As Most Stylish Man

G.O.O.D Music signee, D’banj walked away with the Most Stylish Nigerian Entertainer award for 2013 at the just concluded Encomium Black & White Ball.

The event which was organised to celebrate forerunners and pioneers in the fashion and style business, had many Nigerian entertainers in attendance.

Upcoming fashion designers also had the opportunity to showcase their creations.

Cobham’s mother wins Supermom celebrity show

After thirteen weeks of voting, Gladys Asuquo, mother of the award winning singer,song writer, and producer, Cobhams Asuquo, has won Supermom celebrity edition.

The former clerical officer in the Nigerian Army clinched the winning prize of N2m after earning the highest votes by fans and followers of the ten finalists.

According to the executive producer of the show, Sola Fajobi, she is expected to donate her cash prize to a charity of her choice and would be treated to an all-expense paid trip to Dubai.

Fuji music star, Abass Akande Obesere’s mother, Taibat Omobonike, emerged first runner up while Banky W’s Empire Mates Entertainment rapper, Skales’ mother, was second runner up. They both get N1m and N500, 000 cash respectively which would also be donated to a charity of choice and an all-expense paid trip to Dubai.

Other runners up are Julius Agwu and Tony Tetuila’s mothers.

Speaking on how Mrs. Asuquo’s story was adjudged the best of the ten, Fajobi said, “our viewer’s were moved to tears by the story of how Cobhams turned his disability to a success story. On how she managed to raise him, despite the inherent challenges.”

Mrs Asuquo said, “It wasn’t easy watching Cobhams do chores around the house and run errands like my other children but I resolved to make him as independent and capable of achieving anything he sets his mind to do. I showed him where his box of clothes was and would ask him to go get his clothes after bathing him.”

She also added that as he grew up, his love for music started coming to the fore as he would beat on anything he could lay his hands on, so I encouraged him by buying him musical toys.

Since the show began airing on May 26, the story of 20 Nigerian celebrities, as told by their mothers was the central focus. The participating celebrities include Cobhams, Skales, Obesere, Foluke Daramola, Flavour Nabania, Mr. Olu of the Yahooze fame, Ice K, one half of the enduring duo, Artquake, Kennis Music act, Jaywon, Tony Tetuila and female drummer, Ara.
Others were On-Air-personality, Yaw; actors: Femi Adebayo, Binta Ayo Mogaji, and Kunle Afolayan; comedians: Seyi Law and Julius Agwu; Kenny Saint Best, DJ Humility and Chico Ejiro.

Tupac foundation honors Julius Agwu

Foremost comedian Julius Agwu was recently honored by the Tupac foundation in Atlanta USA.

The comedian was presented with the autobiography of Tupac Shakur titled ‘Tupac Shakur Legacy’ autographed by Tupac’s mum, Afeni Shakur.

Julius Agwu with so much excitement said, ‘I feel very excited for this recognition. And most importantly, it is an inspiration for most of us who are in the business of entertainment because even for the fact the guy’s life was cut short at a very early stage, we know he has left a very indelible mark on the sand of time.’

Darey features Flavour in Sisi Eko remix

Popular musician Darey Art-Alade has featured High-life musician Flavor in the remix of Sis Eko video.

The song was shot in the heart of Lagos Market, with a wide cast of Celebrities such as Julius Agwu, Ali Baba, Waje, Omawumi, Kaffy, Seun Kuti amongst other international acts.

The song is about certain lady doing window shopping as Darey and Flavor spot her in the popular Lagos traffic.
Now Darey trys his best to talk to her but she ignores him, Flavor comes to try his luck blocking other motorists and causing more traffic.

Leaving motorists cursing and swearing on them but they are both lost in the competition of getting the lady.

Complete Fashion celebrates Style Night

It was a night of glitz and glamour as the Complete Fashion Magazine celebrated its second year anniversary and award night.

The show attracted different dignitaries and celebrities including the First Lady of Lagos State Mrs. Abimbola Emmauella Fashola , Abba Folawiyo, Nollywood stars, fashion designers, international and local models amongst others.

The hosts of the night were Nollywood actor Joseph Benjamin and presenter Dolapo Oni.

Fast rising musician, Bez and Omawumi thrilled the audience with their performances as winner of BigBrother Amplified, Karen gave an awesome delivery of the famous Azonto dance steps, leaving the crowd very elated.

Other performances from Darey Art-Alade and the Mavin Crew, who gave their debut live performance as a group.

Awards were presented to every personality that has made the cover page of the magazine in appreciation of their contribution to the success of the magazine.

Popular musician Darey Art-Alade , took to the streets of Lagos Island to shoot the music video for the remix of his hit track ‘Sisi Eko’ which features Flavour.

Darey brought comedians, OAPS, dancers and musicians to Broad Street Marina, alongside Flavour.

The video is directed by South-African, Mark Hofemeyr.
