We Will Deal With Kaduna Crisis Decisively, Says APC Spokesman

Spokesperson of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bolaji Abdulahi, has expressed concern over the demolition of a building which was being used as the secretariat of a faction of the party in Kaduna state.

While this comes amidst ongoing attempts to reconcile all aggrieved members of the party, Abdulahi believes “this kind of situation, will make things a little more difficult for those who now have the responsibility to bring people together”.

He said this while addressing the issue on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday.

The building, located along number 11 B Sambo in the state capital was demolished in the early hours of Tuesday, under the alleged supervision of the state Governor Nasir El Rufai.

Many, including the Senate have condemned the act but the state government insists it had nothing to do with politics.

The Director-General of the Kaduna State Geographic Information Service (KADGIS), Mr Ibrahim Husseini, explained in a statement that the building was brought down as part of an exercise to rid the state of illegal structures, tackle street trading and restore order across the state.

Abdulahi, however, gave an assurance that the National Working Committee of the party, will ensure that the crisis is dealt with decisively.

“I must say that it gives us course for concern that these kind of situations are happening especially at this time that we begin to make deliberate efforts to resolve some of the conflicts and disagreements within the party.

“It shouldn’t have happened but it has happened now so what we are going to do as the National working committee of the party is to see how we can look beyond the immediate pains and ensure that justice is done and be able to rebuild from here.

He also described as “unwaranted”, the comments by another guest on the programme, Mr West Idahosa, that the situation indicates that the APC does not know what to do with power.

According to him, the situation is not peculiar to Nigeria because “wherever you find eagles colliding, wherever you find ambitions colliding, you see these kinds of things happening. We are not saying it is acceptable but we are saying that when they happen, you deal with it and move on.

“I don’t think it is enough to conclude that the Party does not know what to do with power,” he added.

Kaduna APC Faction Describes Demolition Of Secretariat As ‘Act Of Terror’

The new faction of the Kaduna State All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused the state government of sponsoring the demolition of its secretariat located in the state capital describing the demolition as ‘an act of terror’

The group opened the parallel office at 11B Sambo close in the state capital Thursday last week due to irreconcilable differences with the main party leadership.

The secretariat was opened after the suspension of the Senator representing Kaduna north district, Suleiman Hunkuyi and expulsion of 28 other members for anti-party activities.

The faction on Tuesday pointed accusing fingers at the state government and claimed the government sent its agents to demolish the secretariat. The group said the demolition is ‘a deliberate act of terror’ and that it is intolerance against the opposition by the state governor Nasir El-rufai.

A  Chieftain of the APC loyal to the new faction, Mikaiah Tokwak, told Channels Television that the action has laid credence that their constitutionally guaranteed rights to freely associate is now under attack.

The Senate had earlier today condemned the demolition of the factional secretariat. Senator Shehu Sani during the plenary coming under a point of order said he wonders how Governor El-Rufai a democratically elected governor would demolish a building without notice.

Some soldiers were reported to have supervised the demolition of the factional secretariat on Tuesday morning. The secretariat is said to belong to the faction loyal to the suspended senators representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani and that of Kaduna North zone, Suleiman Hunkuyi.

Soldiers Allegedly Supervise Demolition Of Factional Kaduna APC Secretariat

Scene of the demolition

The factional secretariat of the Kaduna State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) located along number 11 B Sambo in the state capital has been demolished in the early hours of today (Tuesday).

Party sources told Channels Television that the secretariat belongs to the faction loyal to the suspended senators representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani and that of Kaduna North zone, Suleiman Hunkuyi.

The demolition order was allegedly carried out by a bulldozer, accompanied by military personnel.

It was opened last week as a parallel State APC office due to the inability of the group to reconcile with the State party organ.

The property, a one storey duplex was said to belong to Senator Hunkuyi before it was converted to a State Party Secretariat last week.

On Sunday, the group held a meeting at the Secretariat, where they claimed to be the recognized state chapter by the APC national leadership.

But reacting, the State Urban Planning and Development Agency (KAPSUDA) said the building was removed for “flagrant violations of land use and non-payment of ground rent since 2010.”

KAPSUDA’s Director-General, Ibrahim Husseini defended the demolition as he said the move was facilitated with assistance from sister agencies aimed at restoring “order” across the state.

“This morning a building on 11B Sambo Close was removed for flagrant violations of land use and non-payment of ground rent since 2010,” he said.

“The Kaduna State Urban Planning and Development Agency (KAPSUDA is currently undertaking operations across Kaduna metropolis in compliance with its mandate.”

This illegal violation of use, he explained, had begun to distress neighbours who were being forced to endure an influx of thugs and blockage of the road.

Husseini further reiterated the determination of the state government in discharging its responsibility on land matters in the state.

To this end, he called for the utmost cooperation by the public with all our agencies.

Kaduna APC Suspends Senator Shehu Sani Indefinitely

Kaduna APC Suspends Senator Shehu Sani IndefinitelyAll Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna state has renewed the suspension of the senator representing Kaduna Central senatorial district, Senator Shehu Sani to last indefinitely.

Senator Sani was slammed with an 11-months suspension by the party leadership in November 2015 but the suspension which elapsed on Tuesday, was renewed indefinitely by the APC ward 6 in Tudun Wada and endorsed by seven local government chairmen of the party that make up Kaduna Central Senatorial district.

A letter addressed to the embattled senator by his ward 6, says the earlier suspension was to enable the senator defend himself against the allegations levelled against him last year but he failed to do so.

“As you are aware, your suspension from the party for a period of 11 months elapsed today, being Tuesday 29th November, 2016,” the letter read.

“The suspension, which was in line with the constitution of our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), was to enable you to defend yourself against illegalities committed by you against the party as well as breach of its constitution.

“We expected the period of your suspension to give you the grace of being remorseful, but you rather choose to play otherwise, and this made our party to be vulnerable to disunity, disharmony and further shattering the existing peace mechanism within our ward and the state at large.

“Therefore, in consideration of the constitutional provisions as contained in Article 21 (A) i, ii, iii, v, vi, and vii of the constitution of the All Progressives Congress (APC), you are hereby suspended indefinitely from active participation of APC activities.

“This is in conformity with article 21 (D) i-(F) which provides punishment for any erring member of the party.

“With this letter, you are hereby warned to abide by the party’s decision,” the party stated.

The letter further stated: “We have received information from Ward 6 in Kaduna South LGA of our great party the APC, on the indefinite suspension of the erring Senator Shehu Sani from the party at those levels.

“Subsequently we wish to hereby endorse this suspension by the ward chapter for the following reasons:

  1. His adamant and perpetual disrespect of the party and its leaders by tarnishing their image and reputation with ridiculous allegations.
  2. His various attempts at causing divisions within the party in the state, by sponsoring frivolous petitions and trouble making.

III. His continuous refusal to show remorse for his actions and seek forgiveness from any level of the party in the state

  1. All these actions constitute serious offenses against the party as captured by article 21 section (A), sub sections i, ii, iii, v, vi and vii of the constitution.

“As the LGA Chapter chairmen of the seven local governments that make up the Kaduna Central Senatorial district, which the suspended Senator represents, we are witnesses to his continuous arrogance and trouble making.

“And we hereby vehemently ratify the suspension by his ward, as endorsed by the LGA and we recommend that the state party executive committee make haste in also endorsing this appropriate indefinite suspension.”

Politically Motivated

Reacting to his suspension, Senator Shehu Sani who spoke through his political adviser, Suleiman described the action as politically motivated.

He also accused the State Governor of being behind his suspension from the party.

“It is very obvious that these clowns are being sponsored, instigated and motivated by Uba Sani who himself appears to be on the instructions of the state governor.

“It is rather unfortunate that Governor Nasir El-Rufai has allowed himself to be deceived by his adviser Uba Sani who is using the office he occupies and the Governor to pursue his personal ambitions and vendetta.

“We have in our possession a picture Mallam Uba Sani posed with the miscreant that led the demonstration, destruction of property and intimidation of people in Tudun Wada some days ago. That picture was snapped when the said individual went and collected funds fron Uba Sani, funds meant for the organisation of violent riots and protests in Tudun Wada Kaduna.

“Even with the purported suspension, Senator Shehu Sani has been up and doing in the Senate, proposing and supporting bills that will bring succour to our people.

“With the overwhelming support Senator Shehu Sani enjoys from our people, a support that is direct result of his masses-oriented disposition, confronting him is like a rat standing before a moving train.

“Senator Sani remains a loyal APC member, who shall always abide by the good policies and manifesto of the party. No amount of intimidation, no amount of hired thugs and no amount of bogus suspension will stop him from fighting for the down trodden”.

Splinter Group Emerges In Kaduna APC, El-Rufai Reacts

APC, Kaduna APC, APC AkidaA fresh leadership crisis has broken out at the Kaduna state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) following the emergence of a splinter group known as APC Akida.

The new group which has the backing of the Senator representing Kaduna Central Zone, Shehu Sani, who was suspended by the party for 11 months for alleged anti-party activities, operates outside the party’s secretariat.

At a news conference organised by its convener, Tom Maiyashi, the group accused the State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, of side lining members of the party and citizens of the state in the scheme of things.

They say they are not comfortable with the leadership style of the State Governor in terms of appointments and political patronage, and have therefore decided to form another platform within the party.

Mr Maiyashi stated that the new group which would soon announce its leaders at all levels in the state, will be a platform for members of the APC to work for the progress of the party in the state.

The aggrieved members also alleged that the current structures in the party do not function in a manner prescribed by its constitution.

Reacting to the emergence of the new group in the party, the Acting Secretary of the APC in the state, Yahaya Pate and Publicity Secretary, Salisu Wusono, said that there is only APC in the state.

They also warned that the party will not tolerate any act of indiscipline by members or any group, warning those behind the emergence of the new group to desist or face severe sanction.

At a town hall meeting in Giwa Local Government, Governor El-Rufai dismissed the allegations levelled against him by the group.

Instead, he accused them of trying to destabilize the party for their selfish interest.

He maintained that members of the group did not work for the victory of APC in the 2015 elections, and therefore, were not in a position to hold the party or the process of change to ransom just because of their personal interests.
