Police Up Security In Kaduna Ahead Of Christmas

Nigeria_Police_Armoured_Personnel_CarrierThe Kaduna Police Command has assured residents of the state of adequate security ahead of the Christmas and new year celebrations.

The State Commissioner of Police, Mr Agyole Abeh, who briefed reporters in his office on Friday, said the police would ensure a crime-free yuletide.

He also advice residents to be vigilant and report suspicious movements and strange gatherings to security agencies during the festive period.

The Commissioner disclose that both conventional and mobile policemen would be deployed to motor parks, highways, worship centres, fun places and other public places across the state all in order to safeguard lives and property of citizens before, during and after the festivities.

Mr Abeh reiterated that fireworks and canisters had been banned in the state and however warned parents to be mindful of the activities and whereabouts of their children during the festive season.

“The Kaduna Police Command has made elaborate plans to ensure the safety of our citizens during this period. We have set up various security measures intended to give citizens sense of security in the state.

“We have mapped out plans, set up check points, that intend to scrutinise motorists. Honestly speaking, we are taking these measures for the interest of security of the state.

“The command has also deployed police mobile force and some conventional ones to strategic positions in the state so as to assist in securing especially the state capital and its environs,” Mr Abeh told Channels Television.

He pointed out that most activities would occur in the state capital during the celebration and gave the assurance that the police were determined to make the city secured.

The commissioner further announced that adequate measures had been put in place to ensure quick response by the Police to complaints from the general public.

“We have patrol teams stationed in strategic positions that will respond within the shortest possible Time. My intention is that our response time will not be more than ten minutes,” he stated.

Ahead of the Christmas celebration on Sunday, Channels Television’s correspondent, Chimezie Enyiocha, who went round the city,  reports that there were presence of armed security operatives along the major roads and other strategic places.



Gunmen Abduct Former Minister, Husband In Kaduna

Gunmen Abduct , Former Minister, Gunmen, KadunaA former Minister of Environment, Laurentia Malam and her husband have been kidnapped by unidentified gunmen along the Bwari axis of Abuja-Kaduna expressway.

Spokesman for the Kaduna Police command, Aliyu Usman confirmed the incident.

He said that security operatives have been deployed to rescue the victims and arrest the kidnappers.

According to him, the former Minister and her husband were abducted on Monday evening along Bwari-Jere road when they were returning to their Kaduna home from Abuja.

The victims were said to have been abducted in the presence of their driver who was later released by the kidnappers.

However, the Police spokesman said that the kidnappers have not demanded for any ransom.

Reported cases of kidnapping in Kaduna State have been on the rise recently, although the Police say they are trying their best to bring the situation under control.

Kidnapped Sierra-Leonean Ambassador Regains Freedom

Sierra-Leonean Ambassador, KidnappedThe Deputy High Commissioner of Sierra Leone in Nigeria, Major General Nelson Williams (Rtd), who was kidnapped along the Abuja-Kaduna road on Friday had regained his freedom and reunited with his family and members of the High Commission.

A statement by the Force Public ‎Relations, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Donald Anwunah said that he was released at about 4pm along the Abuja-Kaduna road.

The statement adds that Mr William’s release is as a result of credible intelligence and technical support aided by intense Police patrol activities on the land and in the air.

The statement further adds that the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Ibrahim Idris, assures members of the Diplomatic Corp and other foreign nationals of their safety and security in Nigeria.

The Sierra-Leonean Ambassador was kidnapped on Friday morning on his way from Abuja to Jaji in Kaduna State for the graduation ceremony of Senior Course at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC).

Sierra-Leonean Ambassador To Nigeria Kidnapped

It was gathered that the Ambassador was kidnapped on Friday morning on his way from Abuja to Jaji in Kaduna State for the graduation ceremony of Senior Course at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC).

Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo was equally at the graduation ceremony in Jaji.

Command and Staff College’s Senior Course graduation ceremony is an annual event, which marks the end of a 12 months training for senior military officers, majority of whom are drawn from the three services of the Nigerian Armed Forces and other ECOWAS countries, including Sierra-Leone.

Although, the Kaduna Police Command is yet to confirm the incident, unconfirmed report says, the Ambassador was kidnapped along the Abuja-Kaduna highway.

The graduation ceremony of the trained senior military officers formally marked the successful completion of yet another senior course that commenced on July 29, 2015.

A total of 191 students, comprising of 89 Nigerian Army officers, 48 Navy, 31 Air Force officers and 10 para-military students as well as nine international students took part in the training.

Kaduna Police Denies Killing Shiite Members

Police-Nigeria2The Kaduna Police Command on Wednesday denied reports that its men killed three members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria during a protest at Tudun Wada area in the state capital on Tuesday.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Zubairu Abubakar, told our correspondent that none of the sect members was killed by policemen during a protest.

He further explained that the policemen were only sent to the area to forestall any break down of law and order following rumours that members of the movement were planning to embark on a violent protest in the state capital.

He also explained that the sect members were the ones that attacked the police patrol team with dangerous weapons, an act he said, prompted the policemen to use teargas to disperse the soaring protesters.

Zubairu stated that a combined team of soldiers and policemen have been stationed at Tudun Wada and other volatile areas in the state capital to maintain law and order, but advised members of the public to be law abiding and report any suspicious movement to security agencies.

In the meantime, relative calm has returned in the state capital and some parts of Zaria, while heavily armed soldiers are still stationed at the PZ and Guyllesu areas in the ancient city where the bloody clash between the sect members and soldiers took place last weekend.

A resident of Zaria told our correspondent in Kaduna that the entire place is cordoned off as nobody is allowed to move around until the situation is brought under control.

Police Uncover Illegal Arms Factory, Arrest 33 Robbery Suspects In Kaduna

policeMen of the Kaduna State Police Command, on Friday, stormed an illegal arms manufacturing factory at Kogun village in Jemaa Local Government Area of the state.

During the raid, several guns and ammunition were recovered and two suspects were arrested in connection with the illegal business.

The State Commissioner of Police, Umar Shehu, while parading the suspects before newsmen at the Kaduna Police Command headquarters, said that the illegal gun manufacturers were arrested, following a tip-off from members of the public who alerted them of the nefarious activities of the suspects.

The Police Command also paraded 33 robbery suspects for car snatching, terrorism and illegal possession of fire arms at different parts of the state.

The Police Commissioner disclosed that his men had arrested an armed robbery syndicate that has been terrorising travellers at Dangwa village, and Kachia area of the state after a gun duel that lasted for several hours with his men.

According to him, four stolen vehicles, assorted charms and several dangerous weapons were recovered from the suspects.

It was also reported that at other operations, the other suspected robbers blocked the major highways at Abuja, Kaduna, Zamfara and Kogi states, snatching cars and cattle at gun points, as some of the suspects confessed.

He reiterated that the command would not relent in its fight against criminals and criminality throughout the state, urging the public to cooperate with the Police by reporting criminals and their activities to the command.

Other items recovered from the suspects include; four locally made AK-47 rifles, several locally made pistols, Police coloured AK-47 magazines and over 40 live special revolver ammunition and cartridges.

Some of the suspects have denied their involvement in the crime, saying the manufacturing of the weapons were not meant for clandestine purposes.

While all the suspects remain in Police detention, the Commissioner gave the assurance that on completion of the investigation, they would be charged to court.

Suspected Boko Haram Members Kill Police In Kaduna

BokoHaram-WIT-GUNS 1Gunmen suspected to be members of the Boko Haram terrorist group have killed a policeman at his home in Rigasa area of Kaduna metropolis.

The late Police  sergeant, Sanusi Musa who was until his death the driver of the Borno State Commissioner of Police,  was said to be in  Kaduna over the weekend to see his family when the gunmen trailed him to his house and shot him.

According to an eyewitness the gunmen numbering about four stormed the residence of the late Police officer about 9:00pm local time on Sunday and shot him three times on the chest.

After shooting him they  immediately took-off in their Honda Concerto Saloon car. The sound of gunshots sent residents scampering for safety.

The spokesman for Kaduna Police Command,  Aminu Lawan, confirmed the incident, saying that the command is on the trail of the killers.

The Boko Haram sect has carried out series of attacks on villages, schools, churches, mosques and public places in the north-east, but have carried out few of this kind of killings in kaduna State.

Gunmen Attack Commercial Banks in Kaduna

Gunmen suspected to be armed robbers on Sunday night stormed Makarfi Local Government area of Kaduna state with explosives and attacked some commercial banks.

Eyewitnesses said the gunmen numbering over twenty had engaged security operatives who moved in to counter the robbery operation in a gun battle throughout last night till early this morning.

There were also sounds of explosions within the town, a situation that heightened tension in the community.

Makarfi shares boundaries with Kano state and is the home town of former Kaduna state governor, Senator Ahmed Makarfi.

Although the Kaduna police command is yet to confirm the incident as the commissioner of police, Olufemi Adenaike could not answer calls from Channels TV correspondent. The state governor, Muktar Ramalan Yero was on his way to the area as at the time of filing this report.



Policeman Erroneously Kills Woman In Kaduna

A police officer in Kaduna has shot dead a middle aged woman, while trying to disperse some youths that stormed acourt proceeding in order to disrupt in Kafanchan.

According to the Kaduna state police commissioner, Olufemi Adenaike who confirmed the incident to Channels Television, the killing of the woman was not intentional, as the Police officers had gone to a court sitting in the area to disperse some youths who came to disrupt a court proceeding and in the process, a bullet from one of the police officers hit the woman which led to her death.

The commissioner stated further, that the police had gone to the court on the request of the presiding judge.

The police officer that shot the woman has been arrested while normalcy has returned to the area.
