NWFL: Obuah Congratulates Rivers Angels For Emerging As Winners The President, and sole sponsor of Go-round Football Club of Omoku, Felix Obuah, has commended the Rivers Angels Football Club of Port Harcourt for winning the 2015/2016 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL).

Obuah, in a statement signed by his Spokesman, Jerry Needam, in Port Harcourt, said the victory of the Rivers Angels is a testimony that they are truly the “undisputable queens of soccer” in the country, having also lifted the 2016 Women Federations Cup.

He applauded the angels for their hard work and determination which he said, crowned their effort with a third consecutive league victory, adding that the proud Rivers ambassadors have also set a record as the only female team to win the NWFL five times.

Obuah, who is also the Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers state, added that the victory of the team represents another milestone by Governor Nyesom Wike whose passion for sports development is unrivaled.

He described Wike’s administration as a story of sporting glories, recalling recent achievements by Rivers United FC, who finished second in the Nigeria Professional Football League, as well as the exploit of Rivers Hoopers in the National Basketball League.

Obuah also commended the coaching crew for a job well done, adding that their technical and tactical inputs provided the tonic in the decisive final match against Nasarawa amazons, in which angels won 5-3 on penalties following a deadlock after regulation time.

The go-round FC boss, however charged the girls not to see their victory as the end of the contest but rather a wake-up call for tougher challenges in the new football season.

He also called on the Angels to see themselves as role models for upcoming players in the state and country at large.

“By the feat you just recorded, you have established yourselves as the all-conquering team in the country.

“You are now the team to beat and this singular achievement has imposed a duty on you to work harder to enable you defend both the federations cup and the nwfl shield,” Obuah said.

He then affirmed that the successful defense of these laurels would instill confidence in Governor Wike to do more and take the club to greater heights.

Nigeria’s External Reserves Increase By 15%

FX Intervention: CBN Disbursed $355.74m For Raw Materials In OctoberStatistics from the Central Bank have shown that Nigeria’s Foreign Exchange reserves rose by 15 per cent in the fourth quarter of 2016.

The reserves which now tops 27.4 billion dollars as at January 19, increased by 3.6 billion dollars from 23.8 billion dollars on October 19.

The report also indicates a 1.6 billion dollars increase in the first 19 days of the year, estimated at 6.2 per cent.

Analysts consensus, however show that the current increases in the reserves may be unsustainable owing to the fall in Naira value and the shortage of dollar supply.

Southern Kaduna Security: FG To Provide Two Military Battalions

garba-shehuThe Senior Special Adviser, (Media and Publicity) to the President, Garba Shehu says solution is on the way as the President has ordered the establishment of two military units to provide security in southern Kaduna.

This is coming as most residents in the region, are now afraid to return to their homes, following the killings in the state.

Mr Shehu gave the assurance while speaking on Channels Television’s breakfast show, Sunrise Daily.

“Government has intensified a lot of activities. As we speak, there are ongoing efforts to establish two military battalions. One in kachia, one in Zango-kataf.”

Furthermore, he hinted that military had begun surveillance, while “the mobile police quadrant had been put in place – the entire place is drenched with a lot of security, so many police.

He then stated that “It would be assumptious to think that these things would just go away with the wave of a hand.

“Some rascally elements would still stray and perpetuate crime, but I think that the measures put in by the government are having effect.”

The President’s aide then urged citizens to also help in the fight against criminals and insecurity as the government alone cannot solve all the problems.

“We often make mistakes, leaving matters of security to the police and to the army, but there are enormous responsibilities that lie on all of us in our various communities.”

Buhari Commends Nigerian Media, Names Channels TV As Favourite

buhar3Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari, has again given an endorsement to Channels Television, as his favourite.

This is the second time the President will be giving such an endorsement on Channels TV.

The first was in a goodwill message to the station on its 21st anniversary.

The President’s picture was posted in a tweet, as he was watching Sunday Politics on Channels Television in London.

The photograph of the President, was apparently released to douse rumours that he was ill in London.

He said: “Wherever I am, I keep up with news from home. Channels TV is one of my favorites. I’m proud of what the Nigerian media are achieving.”

A guest on Sunday Politics was President Buhari’s spokesman, Femi Adesina, who debunked the rumours that President Buhari has been ill and wondered why critics altered the sequence of the statement issued regarding the President’s trip to the UK in order to make the President appear ill.

President Muhammadu Buhari watches spokesman Femi Adesina addressing rumours of his ill health and other national issues on Channels Television

Responding to questions about the President’s health and the rumour, Mr Adesina said: “Don’t forget, the statement we issued said he was going on holiday and during that holiday he would do medical checkups. The sequence is very important – holiday first, medical checkups second.

“Nigerians want to turn the sequence to medical checkups instead of holiday first”.

His explanation, however, triggered questions regarding the President’s trust in the quality of medical services in Nigeria but he argued that it is usually important to consult doctors who have the patient’s medical history.

“Before he became President, he has been using those same set of people. So, it stands to reason that the same people continue to attend to him,” he explained.

Nearer Than Ever

The issue of the nation’s economy was also discussed, with the President’s spokesman further assured Nigerians that the end of the country’s economic challenge was nearer than ever.

Mr Adesina had told Seun Okinbaloye during the programme that all efforts of the Buhari administration to get Nigeria and Nigerians back on their feet would begin to materialise before the end of 2017.

He added that projections by notable international agencies have also predicted that Nigeria would exit recession in 2017.

“World Bank has said it, IMF has said it and before those institutions, the government has said it,” he said.

Adesina refused to have the Buhari administration blamed for the recession that hit the country in the second quarter of 2015, saying Nigeria had been ‘primed for recession’ at the time Buhari became President.

“That recession was inevitable (with) the way Nigeria had been run two to four years prior the time we went into recession. There was no way it would not have happened,” he said.

He explained that President Buhari remained committed to correcting the mistakes of the past.

“What he is doing is good governance which will translate to better life for the people. It’s not going to be by a sudden flight, it’s not a magic wand that he will wave – policies that will yield over time and lead to improvements in the life of the people,” he said.

Cabinet Rejig?

There have been questions regarding the current makeup of the President’s cabinet, with many wondering if there would be a rejig of ministerial appointments.

The death of the Kogi state-born former Minister of State for Labour, James Ocholi, and the impending exit of the Minister of Environment, Amina Mohammed for her UN appointment have also fuelled the speculation that there could be a rejig.

However, Mr Adesina insisted that it remained the prerogative of the President to rejig his cabinet.

While admitting that citizens have the rights to criticize the cabinet in the face of economic challenges, he maintained that the President has the final say on who works with him.

He gave the assurance that President Buhari is in touch with the grassroots and understands the challenges Nigerians have been going through.
