It Was A Risk Leaving UK For Fashion In Nigeria – Mai Atafo

Mai AtafoThe Nigerian fashion industry is on the part of greatness so on this edition of the show, #Metrofile spoke with one of the key players in the industry Ohimai Atafo popularly known as Mai Atafo.

He tells us all we need to know about his journey, the Nigerian fashion industry and its peculiarities.

He admitted that leaving a thriving career in the corporate world for fashion designing was a risk, “It was a risk as everything in life is a risk. You will never know how much a risk it is until you take it.”

However, Mai Atafo believes the industry is growing and great things are happening. He also has some word for young designers.

Phyno, Wande Coal Rock At Grand Finale of L’Original Fashion Competition

fayrouz l'original fashion contestIt was a night of exquisite fashion and raving music as two teams of fashion enthusiasts sparred to gain supremacy at the L’Original Fashion show in Lagos.

The teams, Team Elan led by upcoming designer Temitayo Enitan and Team Loud Tribe – led by Francis Udeh, had bettered other contestants across the country to get to the final stage.

Contest Judge, Mai Atafo, appreciated the efforts of both teams before announcing the winner, Team Elan.

The event ended with dazzling performances by by Raving rapper, Phyno and former Mavin star, Wande Coal, as they entertained the guests.

Sandra Muendane, the Mozambique designer, brought a little extra shimmer to sports wear, mixing jersey fabrics in bold prints with shimmering metallic greys in her collection at the Arise Magazine Fashion Week.

Taibo Bacar, another Mozambique designer who made waves at the AMFW in Lagos last week did so with his collection of flattering dresses, crop jackets and sensual evening wears. The young award-winning designers mix of casual elegance and sophistication won over the fashion crowd at the show.

David David, the UK fashion design label by David Saunders made a bold splash of colour and patterns on the runway at the AMFW show. The collection featured jumpers, fitted pants, cool hoodies and dresses all in pattern fabrics that make a definite bold fashion statement. Plus, we kinda love the socks.

Ohimai Atafo’s strong menswear looks in vibrant colours caught the attention of fashion fans at the Arise Magazine Fashion Week; the Nigerian designer for the uber chic guy or gal shows us why he is at the top of the pack in Nigeria’s thriving fashion industry. Lesson learned from the Mai collection? Be bold when mixing colours fellas; say yes to blues and pinks… embrace it!
