otl_awardOTL Africa has held a dinner and award night to conclude its Downstream Conference 2016 which kicked off three days ago.

The event incorporates awards of excellence and special recognition, with key players in the industry fully represented, expanding the networking range in a glamorous atmosphere.

Since it came into existence 10 years ago, it has become a constant on the diaries of the key players on the continent and beyond. It is the high point of the downstream industry calendar and the climax of the OTL Africa week.

The OTL Award celebrates some of their major sponsors and also celebrates excellence, innovation and achievement in downstream petroleum business, recognizing true value added efforts being made by organisations and persons in oil and gas business.

Awards were also given in the oil marketing categories like Best Consumer Service Retail, Best Marked Lubricant, Best Branded Lubricant and Oil Marketer of the Year.

The big one at the OTL Award is the Lifetime Achievement Awards. It went to three distinguished Nigerians; CEO, Oando Plc, Wale Tinubu; Chairman, WABECO Petroleum Ltd, Chief Silverius Okoli, and Chairman, Conoil Plc, Chief Mike Adenuga, who was ably represented.

The conference traditionally sets agenda for engagement by parties in business, policy, industry and operations.

Participants largely described the Downstream 10th anniversary annual social gathering as largely successful and with the success recorded this year, the players in oil trading and logistics say they look forward to another year to celebrate.

Governor Udom Emmanuel Celebrates Election Victory

The celebration followed the Supreme Court ruling that declared Governor Udom Emmanuel as the duly elected Governor of Akwa Ibom State.

Professor Pat Utomi Celebrates 60th Birthday

Pat UtomiThe Founder of the Centre for Value and Leadership, Professor Pat Utomi, has joined the league of those in the diamond age.

The one-time presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Mega Party, called up friends, family and admirers for a celebration of the new era in his life.

Known for being outspoken, he is a professor of Political Economy, a Management Expert and Fellow of the Institute of Management Consultants of Nigeria.

Born in Kaduna, the north-western part of Nigeria, the professor who is an indigene of Ibuzo in Delta State, served as a Special Adviser to former President Shehu Shagari during Nigeria’s second republic.


He cuts a jack and master figure in all his trades, leaving a trail of excellence as he moves on to the next one.

Professor Pat Utomi spoke to Channels Television’s Metrofile and reflects on the state of the nation as he marks another milestone in his life.

“We are not where we should be,” he said.

Metrofile: RCCG Rivers Province 5 Dedicates Auditorium

RCCGIt was a special day for members of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Rivers Province 5 in Port Harcourt. the Rivers State capital.

The Pastor, ministers and members of the church, with friends and family stepped out for the dedication of the ultramodern multipurpose secretariat of the House of Grace.

The General Overseer of the RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, was there to officially declare the auditorium open.

He took a tour of the building which also houses the children and teenage church as well as an overflow hall with a combined 3,000 sitting capacity and then proceeded to dedicate it to God.

The presiding pastor of the church, Sonny Wogu, expressed joy that the project which started months ago was cow completed.

“We are rejoicing because God kept us alive to see the end of what we started… I pray that we will have more occasions that will call for rejoicing,” he said to Channels TV.

Jessica Akande And Samuel Adedire Walk Down The Aisle

Jessica_and_SamuelIn 2012, Jessica Oluwabunmi Akande and Samuel Ibukunoluwa Adedire met at three different occasions in Canada.

First in the church months later in a football field and lastly at a coffee shop before they realised that it was not just a mere coincidence and the last meeting sparked up a feeling of friendship after they talked for three hours for the first time.

From there, the feelings developed and culminated into the occasion – wedding – that was celebrated on August 16 at Foursquare Gospel Church Headquarters in Yaba Lagos.

The joy of the bride’s father, Mr Yoni Akande, knew no bounds as he excitedly did the honours of leading her daughter to take the decision.

The couple decided to do something different from the norm by coming in at the same time.

Akande is from Kogi State and Adedire is from Ile Ife in Osun State gave their blessing to their children in the presence of the congregation and God.

The first part of the occasion ended in excitement as they danced out of the church.

All attention shifted to the Lagos City Hall, where the Deputy Governor of Kogi State, Yomi Awoniyi and Kogi State PDP chieftain Chief Olusola Akomode were amongst the dignitaries that graced the occasion.

The hall was indeed tastefully furnished, befitting of the couple for whom they have all gathered and guests were well dressed as well, adding more colour and class to the already beautiful occasion.

To set the ball rolling, the parents of the day entered the venue, then they were followed by the couple of the day.

When it was time to dance, it was a happy moment, as couple danced with parents.

It didn’t end there, as they took it a notch higher with a choreographed dance with their bridal train, a scene that is becoming coming in wedding ceremonies.

Delta State Commissions Olympic Sized Swimming Pool In Warri

Olympic-size swimming pool in WarriThe Delta State government recently commissioned an Olympic sized swimming pool in Warri.

The event started of with the grand finally of the 6th edition of the Annual Chief of Naval Staff Open Swimming Championship sponsored by the Nigerian Navy in conjunction with the Delta State government and the Nigeria aquatics federation taken place at the newly constructed Olympic sized swimming pool.

At the event was the state governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan and the Chief of Naval Staff, Real Admiral Usman Jubril.

It was jubilation when the final result was announced with Delta State retaining its leading title, which they have been winning for five years running.

The athletes won 23 gold, 12 silver and 12 bronze medals to bring their total haul to 48 medals.

With the victory, the state government decided to host the athletes as well as the Chief of Naval Staff to a befitting banquets to appreciate them for a job well done.

Still in the spirit of appreciation, the Chief of Naval Staff and others were given awards after which they all relaxed and enjoy all the fun of the evening.

Nigerian artistes Dr. Sid and Seyi Shey were on hand to entertainment the guests and the contestants.

Physicians In The Americas Celebrate 20th Anniversary

Association of Nigerian PhysiciansIt’s a yearly tradition for the Association of Nigerian Physicians in the Americas (ANPA) to host it’s annual general meeting where hundreds of physicians gather, representing more than 6,000 Nigerian doctors in the Americas.

This year, their meeting point was in Anaheim, Southern California and the the ANPA mission is to promote a healthier Nigeria in a healthier world and also foster personal and professional growth of members.

Aside from medical education, this year’s meeting continued the focus on public-private partnership in healthcare in Nigeria.

This years edition is particularly different because it coincided with the association’s 20th anniversary which as expected culminated into a benefit gala evening where the physician’s and their family members let down their hair.

It was indeed an evening to relax and unwind as a young Nigerian Pianist set the evening event open with the national anthem of Nigeria.

Some distinguished personalities were given awards for their great service to the growth of the organisation.

There was also a change in the mantle of leadership as the out-going president of the association, Dr. Mike Etomi, handed over to the new president Dr. Nkem Chukwumerije.

It was not a day of long speeches as the floor was open for dance.

ANPA hopes to continue to provide a platform for medical, political and social dialogue on issues of health within the Americas, Africa, and indeed, Nigeria.

Henry OdukomaiyaPrince Henry Olukayode Odukomaiya celebrated his 80th birthday with a thanksgiving service at the Arch Bishop Vinning Memorial Cathedral, Ikeja, Lagos followed by a reception at the Civic Centre, Victoria Island.

One of Nigeria’s foremost journalists, Prince Odukomaiya is one of the brains behind the birth of Concord Newspaper. He was also the former Managing Director of Champion Newspapers and a former Deputy Chief Editor of the Daily Times.

Prominent Nigerians who attended the event included Minister of Information, Labaran Maku, Ogun state Commissioner for Commerce, Bimbo Ashiru, Chairman Nigerian Economic Summit Group, Mazi Sam Ohuabunwa, Publisher of Vanguard Newspapers, Sam Amuka, Chief Rasheed Gbadamosi.

The celebrant also launched a book: Henry Odukomaiya @ 80: In the Eyes Of Associates, which was reviewed by the former Managing Director of Daily Times, Dr Yemi Ogunbiyi.
