Face Off 2015: Nigerian Celebrities Set For Basketball Friendly

Face OffTop Nigerian celebrities are teaming up to play basketball and compete with a top Nigeria Basketball league team in a friendly game.

The annual event tagged Face Off is a creative blend of basketball, music, dance and all round entertainment facilitated by intensive media coverage as a medium to drive key social values among young Nigerians.

The organisers say it is also a movement to revive Nigerians’ interest in basketball as an
“absolute urban sports genre”.

The 2015 edition of the basketball event would feature a host of A-List Nigerian celebrities vs. the popular basketball team ‘Lagos Islanders’ on November 27, at Landmark Centre, Lagos.

Celebrities that will be playing include, Sound Sultan, Tuface, Darey, Burna Boy, MI, Peter (PSquare), Kaffy, Iyanya, Jimmie, Praiz, N6, Vector and many more.

Although the main ‘Celebrities vs. Islanders’ game is scheduled for 7PM, the event starts by 5PM and will also feature other games like, Celebrities vs. Basketball Veterans, 3-point shooting competition, free throw competition, and a Slam Dunk contest.

Fans of Face Off have been encouraged to purchase tickets online. Free tickets will also be won in a competition on the official Facebook and Instagram pages of the event.

Da Emperor Drops Firewood Ft. Oritshe Femi

Da EmperorNigerian indigenous rapper, Da Emperor, takes a major step towards his dream for global fame.

He has teamed up with the ‘musical taliban’, Oritse Femi, on a brand new single titled ‘Firewood’.

Produced by Justeebeats and mastered by Indomix, ‘firewood’ is a feelgood uptempo dance track with lyrics typical of Nigerian pop culture.

It blends the vocal dexterity of Oritshe Femi with the street inspired Pidgin English and Yoruba rhymes of Da Emperor.

Da Emperor has featured in a good number of tracks alongside established and upcoming acts on the ever exciting hiphop music scene.

Born Mobolaji Ganiyu Fasasi, he has consistently expressed his hope to change the rap game with his punchlines and lyrics.

Dj Spinall, M.I Perform ‘Oluwa’

dj spinallDJ Spinall also known as the ‘CAP’ has released the official video for his second single, ‘Oluwa’, which features MI Abaga.

The slamming turn up single has been on replay since it’s release.

The Hip-hop/Rap single was produced by the super talented hit maker E-Kelly. With backing vocals from new R’n’b sensation Byno and Coker on the hook.

The video was directed by AJE Film while the Song was written by both M.I & DJ Spinall.

I’m Leaving With No Bad Blood – Jesse Jagz

Popular artiste and producer Jesse Agbaga also known as Jesse Jagz has left chocolate City.

Jesse has been in the record label for about 2 years, where his brother MI is the vice president of the label.

Jesse has decided to move on, although the reason for his exit is unclear, he says “he’s leaving with no bad blood”

In a press statement sent by Jesse to his fans, he notified the general public about his exit from the record label.

“I, Jesse Garba Abaga (also known as “Jesse Jagz”) an artist formerly signed to Chocolate City Music label hereby wishes to notify my fans and the general public about my voluntary exit from the label.

After my initial two year contractual agreement with Chocolate City, I do not wish to renew my contract with them and as such have proceeded to continue my music career with my new team at Jesse Jagz Nation.

I still maintain a cordial relationship with the management of Chocolate City and my former label mates and I wish them the best in all their future endeavours.

Any further information will be passed across through my publicist but until then, have a good day. Look out for my sophomore album JagZNation Vol. 1 coming out in July 2013.”

Jesse Jagz’s hit singles “Wetin Dey”, “Pump It Up, “Nobody Test Me”, Bend Down Low, Sugar Cane Baby and The Greatest were all released under Chocolate City.

Akon, Hugh Masekela to grace Calabar Festival

Barely a week to the commencement of the Calabar festival, the SA event Management, Cross River State, Mr Nzan Ugbe has released the itinerary for the 31 days event.

The S.A. events management of Cross River state; Mr. Nzan ugbe has reeled out the itinerary for the Calabar Festival; a 31-day event which will kick-start on Friday,

According to him, topping the list of the list of international and local musicians expected to perform at the event are R & B and hip hop recording artist, Akon and legendary South African trumpeter, composer and singer, Hugh Masekela at the 2012 Calabar Festival.

Akon who owns and manages two successful record labels, convict Muzik and Kon Live Distribution, will be performing at the festival for a second time.

Nigeria’s biggest music stars such as 2 Face, MI, Ice Prince, P-Square, Wizkid, J Martins and Naeto C are also billed to perform during the 31 – day event.

Other local acts include Timaya, Duncan Mighty, Ruggedman, Wande Coal, Iyanya, Nigg a Raw,Flavour and the Azonto exponent, Sakordie from Ghana.

Speaking Music Genres, Jazz music lovers have also been catered for by the organizers of the Festival they lined up Jonathan Butler, Kunle Ayo and Moses Philips to perform at the Jazz in Paradise segment of the festival.

Comedians have also been invited to be part of the event to put smiles on the faces of Nigerians.

The list includes I Go Die,Klint de Drunk, Shirman, Julius Agwu, Gordons, Akpororo, MC Mbakara, Prof. Aboki, White Nigerian, Last Prophet,  Headmaster, Whokes and Robert Ekpo.

For the Calabar praise Night, the list of artists is no less impressive as respected acts like Sammy Okposo,Hope Davies, Sinach, Sabina, Ohen de prophet, Kingsley Agbor and Godswill Daniel.

The festival will also witness the commissioning of a cinema, where the movie; streets of Calabar will premiere.

There will also be the Festival of Arts and Craft, golf and football matches, the selection of a new Calabar Carnival Queen and the Green concert among other new additions to the yearly event.

Exclusive: Songstress Waje on the brink of joining Chocolate City

Channels Entertainment has learnt that award winning singer Waje is close to completing a recording contract with leading music imprint Chocolate City.

According to multiple sources from within the music group, it is only a matter of both parties dotting the ‘I’s and crossing the ‘T’s on the contract papers.

“It has been on for a while now,” a source told Channels Television’s entertainment correspondent.

“An announcement will be made very soon maybe before the end of June,” the source affirms.

However, Mary Ero, General Manager Chocolate City Group will neither confirm nor deny the story.

She maintains that the music imprint has not put out any message as concerns the issue.

Efforts to get the Waje, real name Aituaje Iruobe, to comment is yet to be fruitful.

Darey, MI, Tuface, others to get prize for last Headies this year

One of Nigeria’s biggest and most respected music awards, Headies is back for the seventh year.

The organizers of the Hip-Hop awards are set to launch this year’s event.

According to the CEO, Ayo Animashaun, “we will have a mini event to give out the car and plaques to last year’s winners, and then the following day, we will officially launch the countdown to the big day by announcing nominees, hosts, sponsors and other plans”

A total of 23 plaques will be given to last year’s winners- 2face, Don Jazzy, Darey, Ice Prince, MI, Waje, DJ Tee, Modenine, Cabo Snoop, eLDee, Femi, Dr. Sid, Jah Bless and WizKid leaving with the biggest prize- a brand new Hyundai Sonata 2011.

US based entertainment TV station BET, will this Friday feature two of Nigeria’s rap artistes, Mode 9 and Sauce kid on its programme, Spotlight.

The 30 minute program will be aired internationally by 8:30pm and it will focus on the artistes and their music videos.

D’banj, MI, Wizkid amongst many others are some of Nigerian artistes that have previously featured on the programme.

With so much excitement, Mode 9 described the showcase as being good for Nigerian hiphop, because it will air not only in Nigeria but in the UK and some part in Asia.
