Police Parade Suspected Killers Of Herdsmen In Southern KadunaThe Kaduna State Police Command has paraded some suspects that were arrested in connection with last weekend’s killing of three herdsmen at Jemaa Local Government Area of the state.

Parading the suspects before journalist on Monday, the Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, Mr Agyole Abeh, said the three suspects attacked the herdsmen while they were grazing their cattle inside the bush.

According to him, the arrest was made possible by a tip off from a patriotic citizen of the area.

He then reiterated that the command is determined to bring to justice, anyone or group of persons found engaging in any act of disrupting peace in the state.

The Police boss assured residents of the command’s commitment in ensuring that all forms of crime are brought under control.

“As peace is gradually returning to the Southern part of Kaduna, some persons are bent on ensuring that such efforts are truncated as witnessed few days ago in which some criminal elements from one of the communities in Kafanchan attacked and killed two herdsmen while grazing their livestock.

“However, on a tip off from a good samaritan, some suspects were apprehended and the arrest paid off with three of the suspects confessing to have taken part in the killing of the victims.

“I am committed to ensuring that the citizens of Kaduna state enjoy the benefit of security as enshrined in the constitution.

“The arrest of the suspects who killed the herdsmen on the 11th March, 2017 at Unguwan Luka is a clear indication of our determination to bring to justice any one or group of persons found to be engaged in acts of disrupting the peace in the state and Southern Kaduna in particular.

“Finally, I want to assure the peace loving people of Kaduna state of my resolve and total commitment in ensuring that all forms of crime and criminalities are brought under control so that citizens will be free to carryout their lawful businesses without any form of molestation.”

One of the suspects who confessed to have participated in the killing of the herdsmen, however said it was done in self-defence.

Southern Kaduna has recorded several deadly attacks that claimed many lives and property but as peace gradually returns to the area, it is hoped that the security agencies would intensify efforts to stop any form of fresh attack and ensure that those responsible for the attacks are brought to justice .

The incident, according to the state’s Commissioner of Police, Mr Agyole Abeh, occurred on Monday afternoon around Jere area in Kagarko Local Government Area of the state in northwest Nigeria.

Mr Abeh said the suspects were on their way for a robbery operation before the police intercepted them.

He said the feat was made following intelligence information that the suspected robbers were on their way for an operation.

The Police Commission also disclosed that operatives of the command arrested a dismissed police officer who has been terrorising residents of the state capital in the name of the command.

He added that members of another robbery gang, who specialise in shop theft and car snatching, were also apprehended by his men in different parts of the state.

Items recovered from the suspects include 10 AK 47 rifles, live ammunition, a stolen Toyota Camry vehicle, a police uniform and stolen clothes and jewelleries.

Mr Abeh further assured the residents of water-tight security across the state ahead of the planned diversion of the Abuja bound passengers to the Kaduna International Airport which had been scheduled to take effect from March 8.

One of the suspects, who claimed to have been dismissed from the police since 2015 for alleged involvement in some criminal acts, confessed to the crime.

He told reporters that he had been impersonating as a police officer in order to earn a living.

Police Up Security In Kaduna Ahead Of Christmas

The State Commissioner of Police, Mr Agyole Abeh, who briefed reporters in his office on Friday, said the police would ensure a crime-free yuletide.

He also advice residents to be vigilant and report suspicious movements and strange gatherings to security agencies during the festive period.

The Commissioner disclose that both conventional and mobile policemen would be deployed to motor parks, highways, worship centres, fun places and other public places across the state all in order to safeguard lives and property of citizens before, during and after the festivities.

Mr Abeh reiterated that fireworks and canisters had been banned in the state and however warned parents to be mindful of the activities and whereabouts of their children during the festive season.

“The Kaduna Police Command has made elaborate plans to ensure the safety of our citizens during this period. We have set up various security measures intended to give citizens sense of security in the state.

“We have mapped out plans, set up check points, that intend to scrutinise motorists. Honestly speaking, we are taking these measures for the interest of security of the state.

“The command has also deployed police mobile force and some conventional ones to strategic positions in the state so as to assist in securing especially the state capital and its environs,” Mr Abeh told Channels Television.

He pointed out that most activities would occur in the state capital during the celebration and gave the assurance that the police were determined to make the city secured.

The commissioner further announced that adequate measures had been put in place to ensure quick response by the Police to complaints from the general public.

“We have patrol teams stationed in strategic positions that will respond within the shortest possible Time. My intention is that our response time will not be more than ten minutes,” he stated.

Ahead of the Christmas celebration on Sunday, Channels Television’s correspondent, Chimezie Enyiocha, who went round the city,  reports that there were presence of armed security operatives along the major roads and other strategic places.

 

 

Police Commence Investigation Into Attack On Governor El-Rufai’s Convoy

Kaduna state, police, Nasir El-RufaiThe Kaduna state police command says it has commenced investigation to fish out the masterminds of an attack on the convoy of the state governor, Nasir El-Rufai, when he visited the area.

On Tuesday, Mr El-Rufai in company of his deputy and top government officials were in Kafanachan to assess the level of destruction by protesters on Monday.

It was then that some youths attacked his convoy with stones and other dangerous weapons.

The protest which  was aimed at drawing attention of government to the constant killings of their people by suspected herdsmen, had led to the destruction of property as well as cars in the convoy, the command said.

This was inspite of the 24-hour curfew, imposed by the government in Kafanchan, after getting word of the planned violence.

Briefing newsmen in his office, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Agyole Abeh, announced that an investigation team headed by an Assistant Commissioner of Police, has been constituted and deployed to Kafanchan to identify the hoodlums and bring them to book.

Tanker Explosion Kills One In Kaduna, Razes Police Station

kaduna tanker explosion A petrol tanker explosion in Zaria Local Government Area of Kaduna State has left one person dead and razed down a Divisional Police Station.

An eyewitness told Channels Television on Sunday that the fire was ignited from the explosion of the tanker after it fell near Danmagaji village in Zaria.

The fire was reported to have injured scores of people mainly travellers who scampered for safety and also destroyed not less than 15 vehicles before fire-fighters put out the inferno.

It was reported that none of the suspects or Police officers in the station were affected. All the suspects in custody were evacuated to a safe and secured facility while the fire rages.

The State Commissioner of Police, Mr Agyole Abeh, visited the scene of the incident. He commended the DPO and other officers in the division for their prompt action to save lives of the suspects who were in detention when the fire started.

He said appropriate authorities would be adequately informed on the incident with a view to having temporary arrangement of a building that could serve as the Divisional Headquarters pending when the burnt down building would be rebuilt.

Eyewitness said the driver of the truck and his mate escaped death and flee the scene immediately the tanker fell.

Although emergency officials are yet to ascertain the cause of the accident, residents of the area, however, attributed it to the bad condition of the portion of the road.

They said accidents of different kinds occur on regular basis in the area and called  on the government to urgently fix the bad road in order to reduce the frequency of accidents in the area.
