Imo Pensioners Get Arrears From Government

pensioners-imoThe Imo State Government has commenced the payment of over 30 months pension arrears to pensioners across the 27 Local Government Areas of the state.

During the disbursement of the cheques to pensioners, the Chairman of the Local Government Service Commission, Chinyere Ohandu, said the payment was in line with the promise of the Okorocha-led administration to clear all the backlogs of pension arrears.

She urged all pensioners who have not received their cheques to go to the appropriate offices and do their verification as soon as possible, in order to receive their own cheques.

The government also disclosed that the payment was done per categories.

Pensioners whose monthly pension is 10,000 Naira and below get 100 per cent payment while those whose monthly pension is 10,000 and above get 50,000 Naira.

Some of the beneficiaries who got their cheques commended the state government for fulfilling its promise, saying it will go a long way in alleviating their sufferings.

However, some pensioners, who lamented that their names were omitted from the payment list, appealed to the government to also come to their aid.

Imo State To Create 12,000 Jobs In 2 Years Through Agriculture

agricultureThe Imo State Government has promised to create over 12,000 jobs for its unemployed youths within the next two years through agriculture.

The State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, disclosed this in Istanbul, Republic of Turkey, after a 4-day business trip to Turkey.

Leading a delegation of businessmen from the state and some other top government functionaries, the Governor said that cardinal in his industrialization plan for Imo State, is to develop agriculture as a viable alternative to oil.

“It is necessary at this point to think more of agriculture as the mainstay of the economy which can serve as the only alternative to oil which keeps falling in value every day”, the governor said.

The Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly, Rt Honourable Acho Ihim, who was also part of the delegation, said lawmakers in the state have put in place relevant laws that will be suitable for investors to partner with the state government in her industrialization programmes.

Some other top government functionaries and Imo businessmen, who were also on the delegation, commended the Okorocha-led administration for the initiative of partnering with Turkey to industrialize the state and create more jobs for unemployed youths in the state, especially through the development of sustainable agricultural programme in all the communities of the state.

With a population of a little above 77 million as at December 2014, the agricultural sector of Turkey has been the largest employer of labour.

According to recent publication by IMF and the Economist, Turkey has become one of the few countries in the world that is self-sufficient in terms of food and also one of the largest producer and exporter of agricultural products in Europe and around the world.

Okorocha Commends Court Judgement Affriming His Victory

Rochas OkorochaThe Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, has commended the Appellate Court for upholding the ruling of the Election Petition Tribunal that affirmed his victory during the April 2015 general election.

The Governor also commended the court for justifying the people’s confidence in the ability of the judiciary to uphold justice and respect lawful actions of the people over who would govern them at any given time.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Sam Onwuemoudo, Governor Okorocha commended the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), its governorship candidate, Emeka Ihedioha and his legal team for exercising their constitutional rights, adding that “it will help strengthen the nation’s democracy”.

He also called on the PDP candidate and other Imo indigenes, irrespective of party affiliations, to support his government to further sustainable growth and development and build the state of their collective dreams and aspirations.

Meanwhile, Hon Ihedioha while reacting to the judgment, directed his counsel to approach the Supreme Court and seek redress against the Appeal Court’s ruling.

In a statement by his Media Aide, Chibuike Onyeuwku, the former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives called on PDP members   and all Imo indigenes to remain resolute ‘and continue in their prayers as the Okorocha-led administration in the state will very soon, give way for a PDP-led God fearing, purposeful, transparent and qualitative administration’.

Imo NSCDC Arrests Suspected Oil Thieves And Armoured Cable Vandals

NSCDCThe Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Imo State Command has arrested seven suspects alleged to be involved in illegal sales and adulteration of stolen crude oil, as well as three suspects who are into vandalism and selling of armoured Nitel cables.

Parading the suspects at the command headquarters in Owerri, the Imo State capital, the State Commandant, Pedro Ideba, said the suspects had been in the business for over a long period of time.

They had beaten different security checkpoints by deceiving security operatives, with lorries meant for transporting sands and chippings to smuggle stolen crude oil into the state.

The suspected thieves were said to have covered the adulterated product with sand under the guise of transporting sand and chippings to their construction sites.

He also said a tip-off by some vigilant members of the public, with efforts by his men, traced the suspects to the point of arrest in Owerri where they were caught when trying to sell these adulterated products.

While sounding a note of warning to economic saboteurs who indulge in the line of business, Mr Ideba said it would not be business as usual as the NSCDC Imo Command remained committed to protecting government infrastructures and bring economic sabotage to its barest minimal.

In a similar development, the command also paraded a group led by one Joel Samuel, suspected to have been responsible for excavating and selling armoured Nitel cables and high tension wires.

However, the Deputy Governor of Imo State, Eze Madumere, who was present while the suspects were being paraded, commended the command for their recent breakthrough while also warning that the state government would not spare anyone who sabotages the economy of the State and Nation.

He added that the Okorocha-led administration would stop at nothing to ensure that residents of the State were protected from economic sabotage and other crimes.

The command has promised to charge the suspects to court for prosecuted and face the necessary punishment as stipulated by the law.

Items recovered from them are, drums of adulterated crude oil, generators, pumping machine, jerrycans, as well as two lorries used in conveying the products.
