Ekiti Election: Police Arrest Suspects Allegedly Distributing Money To Voters

Police have arrested some persons in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.

They were arrested for allegedly distributing money for votes at Ajilosun area of Ado-Ekiti in front of Jonathan Memorial School.

After the arrest, they were taken away in a police vehicle.

Apart from the arrest, the electoral process has been peaceful at the polling unit.

Voters had gathered at the polling unit early in the day with many more arriving as the day progressed and accreditation and voting began.

Ado-Ekiti has witnessed a large turnout of voters with the elderly and nursing mothers among those seen in queues.

Over 30,000 police officers are in the state for the elections.

Security operatives including NSCDC officials among others are at polling units and checkpoints in Ekiti State maintaining peace and order as the people exercise their civic duties.

Imo APC Congress: Police Arrest Four Suspects With Stolen Election Materials

The police has arrested four persons for allegedly stealing the voting materials meant for the Imo State ward and Local government Congress of the All Progressive Congress (APC).

The force public relations officer, Jimoh Moshood disclosed this in a statement on Saturday. He added that the suspects were arrested in a hotel in Wuse II, Abuja with the sensitive materials.

“At about 1400hrs of today being May 12, 2018, operatives of the IGP special tactical squad on a tip-off trailed and arrested the suspects in a hotel at Wuse II, Abuja while in the act in hideout in the hotel, manipulating and entering data into result sheets of the Imo State APC ward election result sheets,” the statement read in part.

The suspects are being charged for criminal conspiracy, stealing, forgery, theft and unlawful possession of APC wards and local government electoral materials meant for the aborted APC ward congress election of May, 5, 2018.

Items recovered from the suspects include 68 APC ward congress result sheets, six APC LG result sheet, six LG APC ward officers and delegates list for the aborted May 5, 2018 APC ward congress elections.

Also recovered from the suspect was 130 APC delegates nomination forms.

Moshood warned politicians to desist from any act that is capable of disrupting the electoral process as the police is prepared to ensure that the 2019 general election is conducted under a peaceful atmosphere.

“The Nigeria Police Force is determined to ensure violence free and credible elections across the country in the forthcoming 2019 general election. The force has therefore, put in adequate security arrangement to guarantee free and fair elections from primary elections of all political parties to period of nomination and campaigns and the election proper throughout the thirty six states and the FCT,” Moshood added.

The statement added that the suspects admitted and confessed to the various crime adding an investigation is in progress and effort is being intensified to arrest one other suspects still at large.

All suspects will all be arraigned in court on completion of investigation.

The entire Akinleye village via Osu in Osun state was on Saturday, thrown into mourning when a man identified as Kazeem Ayoola, allegedly killed his mother, Taibat.

It was gathered that Kazeem attacked his mother with a machete and took the life of the 85-year-old woman.

The Police Public Relations Officer for Osun State Police Command, CP Folasade Odoro, who confirmed the incident, gave the assurance that the matter is under investigation.

Although the reason for Kazeem’s action is yet to be ascertained, the PPRO said he has been arrested and that the corpse of his mother has been deposited at the mortuary of the Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife for autopsy.

The State Commissioner of Police, Zubairu Mu’azu, while parading the suspects at the Police headquarter in Minna, said that most of them were herdsmen and kidnappers who have terrorized several communities on the Niger East senatorial districts in the last one month.

According to him, “aerial and land operations” carried out by men of the command led to the arrest of not less than 194 suspects from various locations in January alone.

“The Police in collaboration with sister security agencies took the battle to the dens of armed bandits in Allawa, Kukoki, Pandogari, Isau, Kaffinkoro, Sarkin- pawa, Shiroro, Mangoro, Lapai and Gurara.

“The aerial surveillance and ground raids culminated into the harvest of arrests and recovery of assorted weapons”.

CP Zubairu Muazu said among those arrested were “24 most wanted kidnappers and cattle rustlers” adding that 612 cattle recovered from the suspects had “been handed over to their owners”.

According to him, weapons recovered from the suspects were five AK47 riffles, 648 rounds of live ammunition, 21 single barrel guns with 248 cartridges, one revolver riffle and five revolver short guns.

Others, he said were six Ghana made pistols, one locally made pistol, nine Dane guns and other dangerous such as axe, bow, arrows and knives.

The Police Commissioner said a man suspected to be giving treatment to injured herdsman and a box containing some drugs and other medical equipment was also recovered.

He further said 21 victims were rescued from the criminals hail hearty while some were rescued injured.

The Police Commissioner advised the public “to remain calm and stop peddling rumour” saying the Police would always track down any criminal in the state.

He announced that two AK-47 rifles, one locally made pistol and assorted charms were recovered from the suspects.

He gave the reassurance that the command would not relent in its effort to arrest the masterminds of the southern Kaduna attack with a view to bringing them to justice.

Some of the suspects claimed that they were innocent of the crime they were accused of.

Meanwhile, the Kaduna state government has relaxed the 24-hour curfew imposed on Zagon Kataf to 12 hours.

The sexagenarian, known as Johnson Oyelade who has been dragged before an Osogbo magistrate court on Thursday was arraigned on a three-count charge of stealing and pretense.

The prosecutor, Mr Ajayi Sunday said “Johnson Oyelade and others at large on 20th January 2017 at about 1PM at Moje Junction, Abaku area, Osogbo did conspire together to commit felony to wit stealing.

“Johnson and others now at large on the same date, time and place did obtain the sum of N130,000 from one Ayuba Garba with pretense of selling a Bajaj motorcycle.

“So also, Johnson Oyelade and others now at large on same date, place and time did steal the sum of N130,000 property of one Ayuba Garba.”‎

Mr Ajayi said that the offences committed by Johnson is punishable under Section 516, 419 and 390(9) of the criminal code cap 34 Vol. II laws of Osun-State of Nigeria 2003.

The counsel to the accused person, Mr Mufutau said “I humbly pray your worship to admit the accuse on bail; I assure this honorable court that the accuse won’t jump bail if bail is granted and he has people of means to stand his bail”.

The Magistrate, Mrs Olowolagba granted bail to the accused in the sum of N200,000 and adjourned the case till March 13, 2017 for mention.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Abimbola Oyeyemi, the suspects were arrested at various locations in Mowe following the violent cult clash between two rival groups.

He said that the suspects came to Mowe and unleashed mayhem in the area, vandalized vehicles and made life uncomfortable for innocent residents of the area before a distress call was made to the Area Commander, Sagamu and Divisional Police Officer, Mowe by residents of the area

Consequently, Policemen were swiftly deployed to the scene and repelled their activity and in the process 10 among the hoodlums were arrested, including a female member who investigation revealed is the person whose house they gathered to hold meetings and strategize on how to carry out the attack.

According to the PPRO, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Iliyasu, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department.

He has also warned that violent crimes will not have a place in the state.

He appealed to parents to warn their children to desist from any criminal act as the Police command is out to deal decisively with anybody caught perpetrating acts of criminality

He advised residents to go about their normal businesses as the Police would deploy everything in its arsenal to ensure their safety all the time.

Police Foil Bank Robbery, Arrest Bank Staff, Security MenThe Police in Rivers State have arrested a senior bank staff and security personnel attached to the bank involved in the foiled armed robbery attack on an Access Bank branch in Port Harcourt, Rivers state.

According to Police Public Relations Officer, DCP Don Awunah, caches of arms and ammunition were also recovered from the suspects who are five in number.

He stated that the five suspects, along with others still at large, stormed a branch of Access Bank in Port Harcourt, on December 22, 2016 relying on information and active involvement of the staff of the bank.

They successfully broke down the well-fortified security doors and barriers and took over the banking hall.

“They were almost pulling down the vault of the bank and other strong rooms in the bank with use of gas cylinder welding machine and iron cutters before the joint Police Teams of IGP’S Intelligence Response Team and Policemen from Rivers state Police Command swiftly moved in and dislodged them,” he stated.

The Police foiled the armed robbery attack and “made a prompt arrest of three of the suspects at the scene; namely Samuel Nwala ‘M’ 28 years, Lucky Ukwuoma ‘M’ 26 years, Kaale Taagabah ‘M’ 27 years”.

“In the course of thorough investigation into the foiled armed robbery attack on the bank, the principal suspect (Samuel Ndudiri ‘M’ 28 years) who is a staff of the bank and the mastermind of the armed robbery attack was subsequently arrested based on the confessional statements volunteered by the three suspects arrested at the scene.

“The arrest of the principal suspect led to the arrest of Ex SGT Promise Ukwuoma who participated actively in the armed robbery attack on the bank.

“Two AK47 riffles and the ammunition were recovered from him.

“All the suspects have volunteered confessional and useful statements to the Police about the various criminal roles they played in the commission of the crime.

“However, concerted efforts are being intensified to arrest other suspects still at large and bring them to justice.

“The case will be charged to court on completion of investigation,” he stated.

Asides the two AK47 rifles and magazines fully loaded with ammunition, other items recovered from the suspects are a welding machine, two gas cylinders and iron cutters, a big chisel, cutting saw, hammer, and acetylene gas powder.

Police Arrest Runaway Mastermind Of CBN Governor's Wife's KidnapThe Inspector General of Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT) has arrested one Umar Abubakar identified as the 10th gang member in the kidnap saga of the CBN Governor’s wife, Mrs Margaret Emefiele in September 2016.

According to a Police statement, Umar Abubakar aka Kiriwa was trailed and arrested in Minna, Niger State on December 9, 2016 “consequent upon several weeks of monitoring and actionable intelligence gathering coupled with collaborative efforts of public spirited members of the community”.

“Umar Abubakar, one of the arrow heads of the dare devil kidnapping gang led detectives to two (2) houses and three plots of empty land he purchased with the proceeds of his share of the ransom.

“The arrested kingpin confessed that he used three million naira (N3m), part of the ransom, to open a provision shop in Minna, Niger State which he was running with his wife.

“The original papers of the houses and plots of land have been recovered and registered as exhibits and the shop also sealed,” the Police stated.

The Police promised that with the assistance and the support of the people, it would ensure that no crime committed will go undetected and perpetrators apprehended for justice and closure to prevail in the court of law.

The Inspector General of Police, IGP Ibrahim K. Idris, reassured members of the public of the readiness of the Police under his leadership to deliver dedicated and quality policing services.

He further urged all citizens to be vigilant, provide useful information and report suspicious movements and activities to the Police for prompt response.

Mrs Emiefele and three of her aides were kidnapped on September 29 at Oquneki hills along Benin-Agbor road, in Delta state, but were all rescued the following day unhurt.

The kidnappers had demanded for the sum of 100 million naira ransom.

The Force Public Relations Officer, Mr Sanni Agaisa, spoke to newsmen at the State Command in Katsina on Thursday.

Mr Agaisa said that the group had succeeded in duping one Mallam Jibril of about 13 million Naira and another Mrs Shamsudeen of about six million Naira, although the suspects claimed that they collected only 500,000 Naira.

He said that the group specializes in presenting themselves as spirits and claiming they can help their victim succeed in life and business.

The Police Commissioner, Usman Abdulahhi, said that the matter was under investigation.

He advised the people of the state to always report such crimes as the Police would always ensure that justice is served.

Parading the suspects at the state headquarters of the Police, Eleweran in Abeokuta, the state capital, the State Commissioner of Police, Hammed Iliyasu, said that the suspects have been engaging in this illicit business for some years before they were apprehended.

The Police boss maintained that the Police would not leave any stone unturned in ensuring that criminals in the state change from their evil ways or relocate from the area.

One 34-year-old Nurudeen Adeniyi, a resident of Ijebu-Igbo, confessed to the crime.

Their last victim was a 16-year-old girl who was allegedly killed and whose corpse was dumped in a nearby river before they were arrested by the Police.
