TRENDING: PSquare Fight Video Causes Storm On Twitter

After the news of the split of popular hip-hop duo, Psquare, a viral video in which the two brothers were seen fighting has taken Nigerians by a huge surprise.

Fans of the two brothers have taken to Twitter to express their opinion on what some termed as a “great disappointment” as the two brothers washed their dirty linen in public.

The famous group, Psquare, which has helped changed the face of Nigerian music industry with several hit tracks including “Senorita,”  “Nobody Ugly” “Ifunaya” remain an inspiration to many other fans as they still believe the group are still together and the video of the fight is just a publicity stunt.

Psquare’s Breakup Makes No Sense – Charass

Emerging act, Charass, born Chinedu Onyewuchi has reacted to the split between the popular singing duo, Psquare

Charass who began singing as a high school student in Jos, says he looked up to Psquare as his music idol at the time.

Speaking with Channels Television the artiste stated that Psquare’s break up makes no sense to him, as they have inspired him a lot.

“I don’t really know what the problem is but I believe they have come too far for this, I believe whatever the problem is shouldn’t end Psquare like that. A whole lot of young people are inspired by their music, so I don’t see any reason why they should just break up now.

“It doesn’t even make any sense to me, I am not in support of them breaking up, they are family.”

Charass who made his official debut under the ‘Matured Minds Music’ imprint led by famed footballer, Mikel Obi explained that he believes it is a personal issue but they should sort it out.

“They’ve been successful over the years, they have crossed too many limits, they have done the impossible, so I do not think success is part of it. I think it is something personal and they should sort it out. They are one of the pioneers of the industry and they are people we look up to.”

Charass also credits his mother as another major influence in his passion for music. He recalls attending choir rehearsals with her as a young boy.

“It was pretty rough, we were a normal average family, I have loved music since when I was a young boy. My mum was a choir mistress back in the days and I use to go to church with her and watch them do the practice. Music has been in me ever since I was a child but I never thought of doing music, I wanted to become an engineer but music chose me and I don’t even know how.”

The Mikel Obi-led MMM represented a good platform for Charass to pursue a career in music, he released his first song, ‘Tininitanana’ as well as ‘Gbege’, which enjoyed the fair reception.

His first major collaboration featured pop star Davido and acclaimed rapper, Phyno on the song titled ‘Coco Butter’.

Eventually, his agreement with the label came to an end, and despite the exposure gained, Charass still has challenges to deal with as he makes his way to the top.

“Most of the challenges I face is mainly trying to get out of that upcoming artiste level, that is one of the most difficult parts of it because once you get out of it as well, you still need to put in work to keep doing music. That is one of the challenges, coming out from becoming an upcoming artiste to an A-list artiste.”

He recently released a video for his song, ‘Smile’. The visuals were created in South Africa by director Issac K.

Reviewing 2013: It’s Been A Year Of Endorsements In Entertainment – Areh

The CEO of Wildflower PR, Omah Areh, has rated the Nigerian entertainment industry to have done very well during the year 2013.

Areh was a guest on the last edition of Rubbin’ Minds on Channels Television for the year, where she did a review of happenings during the year.

According to her, Nigerian musicians took their acts to the next level in 2013, considering how many of them had tours in foreign countries, most especially in Europe and North America.

Citing examples like P-Square, Iyanya, Flavour, Davido and many others, she said that the most notable part of this is not that they performed abroad, but that many of their concert tickets sold out, with massive crowds coming to watch them.

She also noted that the industry is now taken more seriously by Corporate Nigeria, as brands are appreciating the fact that there are a lot of things to be part of in the industry.

With telecom companies leading the pack, she commended the involvement of many local businesses in the industry; she said “It was a year of endorsements”. Afeez Oyetoro, popularly called Saka and his highly celebrated switch between two giant telecom brands was cited as example of the fact that brands have really taken the industry serious.

She added that at a point it looked like there were no more artistes without an endorsement deal. The artistes are now seen as brands themselves and companies are happy to identify with them as ambassadors.

She noted that the implication of this development is that more of these artistes now have better funds to invest in their careers and this has added to the quality of work being churned out from Nigeria.

“There are also more concerts” according to her, with singer, Dare’s ‘Love Like A Movie’ concert among the most eye catching in 2013.

She also noted that, beautiful actress, Omotola Jalade Ekehinde, being named by TIME Magazine among the world’s Top 100 influential people shows how much the entertainment industry grew in 2013.

There were expressions of hope that someday, concerts in Nigeria would be even greater with arenas fully packed with everyone standing.

On the gloomy side, the many deaths of Nigerian entertainers put a dent on Areh’s many reasons to celebrate the industry, especially with many of them being young people. Fatai Rolling Dollar, Justus Esiri, Goldie Havie, were among those mentioned with singer, Goldie’s drawing a lot of attention becasue she passed on at a time when she was just gaining prominence.

The industry also saw many weddings in 2013 but there were many crashed marriages too according to Areh. However she thinks that is nothing to frown about.

She advised that the art of peeping into people’s private lives is catching on in Nigeria because people find it amusing to see the privacy of their celebrities. She therefore expects that more Nigerian stars would take a cue from the likes of American superstar, Beyoncé (who shot a documentary of herself) and embrace the global trend of celebrity reality shows in 2014.
