Judge Revokes Chris Brown’s Probation, Allows Him To Remain Free

chris brownSinger Chris Brown’s probation was revoked on Thursday when a judge found he should not have left Los Angeles County to perform in San Jose without the court’s permission, but the entertainer was allowed to remain free at least until March.

The “Turn Up the Music” singer was ordered to return for a probation violation hearing on March 20, Jane Robison, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office, said in an email.

Brown, 25, appeared in court with his girlfriend, model Karrueche Tran, after performing at a club last weekend in San Jose in Northern California where police said five people were shot and wounded. Under the terms of his probation, Brown was not allowed to leave Los Angeles County.

Brown’s attorney Mark Geragos said in court that his office had mistakenly informed the singer he could go to Northern California without the judge’s permission.

But Los Angeles Superior Court Judge James Brandlin said Brown was responsible for following the terms of his probation and Brandlin ordered that it be revoked, but allowed the R&B singer to remain free at least until the upcoming hearing.

The singer’s probation stems from his pleading guilty in 2009 to assaulting singer Rihanna, his girlfriend at the time, on the eve of the Grammy Awards.

In 2013, Judge Brandlin revoked Brown’s probation after he was accused of punching a man trying to get a picture of the singer in Washington, D.C., but he was not taken into custody in Los Angeles at that time because of good reports on his progress.

Chris Brown’s Bodyguard Claims To Punch Victim In The Face

R&B singer Chris Brown, who pleaded guilty to assaulting his girlfriend Rihanna, appears in court in Los AngelesA bodyguard for R&B singer, Chris Brown, told Police that it was he, not Brown, who punched a man in the face outside a hotel in Washington last year, a detective involved in Brown’s arrest said in court on Monday.

Brown and the bodyguard, Christopher Hollosy, are both facing misdemeanor assault charges for allegedly punching a man who was trying to board Brown’s tour bus outside Washington’s W Hotel in October.

Police Detective, Kimberly Metivier, testified in Washington Superior Court that Hollosy yelled for officers to arrest him, not Brown, for hitting the man after he tried to board the singer’s tour bus.

“He was yelling on his own accord that he was the one who did it … and not to arrest Mr. Brown,” said Metivier, adding that Hollosy said, “I punched him — not Chris.”

Hollosy’s attorney, Bernard Grimm, requested that the confession be suppressed as evidence at trial because his client had not been read his Miranda rights. The judge presiding over Monday’s evidentiary hearing, Patricia Wynn, denied the motion. Wynn also ruled to have Brown and Hollosy’s cases tried separately, against protests from prosecutors.

Brown, who did not appear at the hearing on Monday, has rejected a deal from prosecutors to plead guilty to simple assault. A lawyer for Brown, Danny Onorato, told reporters that the deal had been turned down because “Chris Brown’s not guilty.”

The 24-year-old singer was jailed last month after violating his probation when he was dismissed from a facility where he was receiving court-ordered treatment related to his 2009 assault of his then-girlfriend, singer Rihanna.

In the 2009 case, Brown was sentenced to five years’ probation, community labor and domestic violence counseling.

Brown’s probation was revoked by a Los Angeles judge last month following the Washington fracas. He was not taken into custody because of good reports on his progress in a court-ordered rehabilitation program.

Brown’s probation was also revoked in July after he was charged in a May hit-and-run traffic accident. A Los Angeles judge reinstated probation in August after Brown agreed to complete an additional 1,000 hours of community service.

Since the 2009 sentence, Brown has been involved in altercations with rapper, Drake and his entourage in a New York nightclub and R&B singer, Frank Ocean in a Los Angeles parking lot.

Album Of Unheard Michael Jackson Songs To Be Released In May

MJ-coveredEight previously unreleased songs by the late Michael Jackson will be part of a new album, “Xscape,” the singer’s estate and Sony Music Entertainment’s Epic Records said on Monday.

The songs were unearthed from Jackson’s archive of recorded material by L.A. Reid, the chairman and chief executive of Epic Records.

“Xscape” will be released on May 13.

The new album is the latest venture for Jackson’s estate to capitalize on the posthumous popularity of the King of Pop.

Jackson died in 2009 at age 50 in Los Angeles from an overdose of the powerful anesthetic propofol given to him by his personal physician while he was rehearsing for a series of 50 comeback concerts in London.

The unreleased tracks have been re-produced by the likes of present-day hitmakers Jerome “Jroc” Harmon, who has helped produce hits for Beyonce and Justin Timberlake, and Norwegian duo Tor Hermansen and Mikkel Eriksen, who work under the name Stargate and have produced hits for Rihanna and Selena Gomez.

Top pop producers Rodney Jerkins and John McClain were also enlisted to make the songs sound contemporary in style, Reid said.

One of the songs is called “Xscape,” which was taken for the album title to continue Jackson’s tradition of using a one-word song title on the album for its name, Reid said.

The age of the material or the remaining song names have yet to be released. Hip hop and pop producer Timbaland will be executive producer of the album.

Rihanna Hits Fan With Her Mic During Her Concert

Rihanna recently had a show in Birmingham, UK where she purposely hit a fan of hers in order to let go of her arm.

With security guards surrounding her, the 25-year-old S&M singer stepped down into the audience to greet fans and shake hands. When one of her fans refused to let go of her arm, Rihanna took matters into her own hands and whacked the person with her microphone.

The pop star isn’t apologising for the incident either. She tweeted after the performance:

Rihanna Postpones Tour Due To Unidentified Illness

Rihanna has missed another show on her tour which she tagged Diamonds World Tour due to unidentified illness.

The Barbados-born pop star had canceled a show last month in Boston, just the second city on the tour and a follow-up performance was also canned in Baltimore.

On both occasions, the singer missed due to illness – or more specifically, laryngitis.

Promoters Live Nation have “postponed” — and not canceled — the Houston date. Unfortunately, as a result of illness Rihanna is unable to perform this evening at Houston’s Toyota Center. Fans are instructed to retain their tickets to this event pending rescheduled show date information,” the Live Nation statement reads.

The Diamonds tour is due to move on to the American Airlines Centre in Dallas on Tuesday night.

Rihanna explained her latest ailment with a message on Instagram where she posted that “I was sick since San Diego! I kept working because I thought two days off after the Vegas show would be enough time to recover and I messed up, those were two days off from hell and today is not different! I’m sad and disappointed about it! I had all kinds of plans for Houston!”

Frank Ocean Stops Charges Against Chris Brown

Rising R&B star Frank Ocean said on Saturday he will not press charges against singer Chris Brown, who he said had “jumped” him last week in a parking lot.

The encounter between Ocean and Brown still could derail Brown’s efforts to remain in compliance with his probation stemming from his 2009 assault against singer Rihanna, his on-again, off-again girlfriend, a legal expert said.

Earlier in the week, a spokesman for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said Ocean was “desirous of prosecution in this incident,” which occurred on January 27 outside a recording studio in West Hollywood.

Representatives for Brown could not be reached for comment on Saturday.

Sheriff’s deputies had cited witnesses as saying Grammy-winner Brown, 23, punched Ocean, 25, in the brief altercation.

But Ocean on Saturday posted a message on saying he wanted to move past the incident.

“I’ll choose sanity,” he wrote. “No criminal charges. No civil lawsuit. Forgiveness, albeit difficult, is wisdom. Peace, albeit trite, is what I want in my short life. Peace.”

Brown and Ocean both are nominated in the best urban contemporary album category at the Grammys Awards, which will be announced February 10 in Los Angeles.

On the day of the parking lot incident Ocean had said on Twitter that he “got jumped by chris and a couple guys.” He also said he cut his finger and Brown was later photographed with a cast on his right hand.

Brown, whose hit songs include “Look at Me Now” and “Run It!,” was placed on probation for five years for the assault on Rihanna. He risks having his probation revoked if charges are filed against him.

But if the judge overseeing his case suspects Brown broke the law, the judge could move to find him in violation of probation even without a criminal charge, said Steve Cron, a defense attorney not connected to the case and an adjunct professor at Pepperdine University School of Law.

“Then, Brown would be entitled to have a hearing with witnesses and his lawyers questioning witnesses and so forth,” Cron said.

Cron said prosecutors still can file charges even if a suspected victim does not cooperate.

If Brown is found to have violated his probation, a judge could send him to jail or order counseling, he said.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s spokesman Steve Whitmore said that if Ocean does not want to press charges, it would be difficult to proceed with the case.

Brown’s entourage and that of Canadian rapper Drake were involved in a June 2012 brawl in a New York nightclub. No arrests or charges were brought in that case.
