Do Not Reignite Nigeria-Cameroon Frosty Historical Issues, Shehu Sani Tells APC

Senator Shehu Sani has called on the All Progressives Congress to avoid reigniting ‘historical issues’ between Nigeria and Cameroon in its legal tussle with the Presidential candidate of the People Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, over the outcome of the 2019 presidential election.

Senator Sani made the call in a tweet on Saturday in reaction to a motion the APC filed before the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal a day earlier, claiming that Atiku is not a Nigerian and, therefore, not qualified to have stood for the election.

He said, “Be cautious in your politics not to reignite Nigeria Cameroun frosty historical issues so that they don’t renew claims to the old Sardauna province and then we will end up losing a portion of our northern territory like the Bakassi.”

Atiku Is Not A Nigerian, APC Tells Tribunal

Alleged Cameroonian Citizenship: The APC’s Position Shows Desperation – Atiku

The APC claimed in its motion that Atiku is a Cameroonian and not a Nigerian citizen and his petition against President Muhammadu Buhari, its candidate in the poll, should be dismissed for lacking merit.

The motion was in response to the petition of Atiku and the PDP, challenging the declaration of Buhari winner of the presidential election and asking the Tribunal to declare him as the lawful winner of the poll.

Atiku has dismissed the claim about his citizenship as ‘ridiculous’, and accused the APC of attempting “an unconstitutional redefinition of the term ‘Nigerian’”

A statement by his media adviser, Paul Ibe, quoted the former Vice President as saying, “The position of the APC is so pedestrian and shows such straw clutching desperation on their part, that I shall not dignify it with an answer. Our lawyers would, of course, do the needful in court”.

Apart from urging the APC to be cautious, Senator Sani weighed in on the killings in the North, lashing out at leaders of the region.

The lawmakers said the leaders were vociferous when such killings took place under the previous administration, but have become calm as lambs in the face of the recent challenges.

“When killings in the north happened under the last administration, political and religious leaders from the north behaved like Tigers in putting pressure on the Government to act; Under this administration, they are as ‘fierce’ as a lamb,” Sani said.

He also argued that if the present government has provided jobs and created wealth as they claim, peace and insecurity would not be an issue.

Shehu Sani Weighs In On War Of Words Between APC, PDP

Senator Shehu Sani has weighed in on the raging debates between the PDP and the President Muhammadu Buhari over allegations of fraudulent acquisition of Etisalat Nigeria and Keystone Banks Plc.

Recently, the PDP alleged that President Muhammadu Buhari’s family has ownership of shares in the Etisalat Nigeria and Keystone Bank.

The PDP accused President Buhari of acquiring mouth-watering shares in Keystone Bank with total assets of $1.916bn, as well as purchasing about ₦3bn worth of shares in the new Pakistani Islamic Bank.

Reacting to the claims by PDP, Senator Sani took to his Twitter page demanding that both Etisalat and Keystone Bank publish names of shareholders within their organisation.

Sani said this is the only way to settle the allegations raised against Buhari.

He wrote: “In view of the moral dust raised by the questions on the shares of the two firms now on the scale of integrity, Etisalat and Keystone should publish the full names of their shareholders, to exhale the billows of smoke and clear the dark clouds hanging over the landscape of our nation.”

In a condolence visit to the state, the President said, “If in the past, they got away scot-free, we shall now hold everyone to account for these latest killings.”

At a meeting with senior government officials, security chiefs, traditional rulers, religious, political and community leaders at the Musa Yar’Adua Sports Complex, the president noted that it is unacceptable that criminal elements can unleash such violence on innocent citizens.

He directed the Nigeria Police Force to remain vigilant in securing communities and diligent in prosecuting criminal offences.

Police Arrest Indian Hemp Dealers’ Kingpin In Niger State

HempThe Niger State Police Command has arrested the leader of notorious India hemp dealers at Gwada in Shiroro Local Government Area, Niger State, after several failed attempts.

Investigation revealed that the notorious gang leader simply identified as Sani was arrested by a Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad in Niger Police Command.

The arrest was made after the people of Gwada community cried out over the way and manner the gang’s operations in the area.

The gang had threatened many lives before now.

Consequently, the inhabitants of Gwada, according to report, were surprised when the news of the arrest got to them.

“We never believed the gang leader and his members could be arrested because of the way they operate. It was as if they were above the law or were certified by the security,” a community member told Channels Television’s correspondent.

The gang leader has been handed over to the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for prosecution, leaving Gwada town and environs free from public embarrassment and threats from the gang.

A Gwada resident, Mr Abdulkadir Yunusa, applauded the Nigeria Police Force in the state, led by the Commissioner of Police, Abubakar Marafa, for that stride especially in their community.

He further requested for sustainable monitoring of the town to get rid of those who were operating in secret.

The arrest of the gang leader of the Indian hemp sellers, who sold their substances in an open market square in broad daylight at Gwada town, is considered historic.

The use of sophisticated weapons by the gang had made their arrest difficult in the past years.
