The Anambra Warriors trashed their hosts 3-0 on Matchday 20 of the Nigeria Professional Football League at the Lekan Salami stadium in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

Godwin Obaje gave the visitors the lead two minutes into the game, while Seka Pascal scored the second.

King Osanga netted a fantastic third to ensure a convincing win for the visitors, despite going down to 10-men.

Goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa who saved a penalty expressed optimism his side can keep the good form.

NPFL: Rivers United, MFM FC Defeat OpponentsIt was a delightful match for Rivers United as they defeated defending champions Enugu Rangers on Sunday evening.

The Nigerian south-south team, who finished second last season, beat their visitors 1-0 to clinch their third win of the season.

Elsewhere, MFM FC thrashed Remo 1-0 while Akwa United beat El-Kanemi Warriors 1-0 at the Nest of Champions in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.

Sunshine Stars also defeated Wikki Tourists 1-0, just as the clash between ABS FC and Katsina United ended in same score line.

Also, Lobi Stars beat visiting Gombe United 1-0; Niger defeated Nasarawa 2-0 while Kano Pillars recorded the biggest feat with a 3-1 win against Enyimba International.

Meanwhile, the game between FC Ifeanyi Ubah and Abia Warriors ended 2-2 while Shooting Stars held league leaders Plateau United to a 1-1 draw.

Shooting Stars Reassure Fans Of Better Results

Shooting Stars, 3SC, Gbolagade Busari, FansShooting Stars Football Club (3Sc) have reassured their fans that they will bounce back from their ‘not too impressive’ performance in the ongoing professional league.

The Chairman of the club, Mr Gbolagade Busari, who gave the assurance in a statement in Ibadan, said that hope was not lost for the club as the season had just begun.

He noted that the club would improve on its performance and start getting better results, adding that they would live up to the expectations of the fans.

“We are not happy with the standing of our darling team. The results we got in recent matches have not justified our efforts to reposition the team.

“However, hope is not lost as we are ready to change the tide and get good results,” the 3SC boss stated.

Our Motivation

Mr Busari stressed further that the management of the club has identified the problems of the team.

He stated that adequate measures would be put in place in order not to disappoint the fans, supporters and well-wishers of the club.

The club chairman promised that the team would be rejuvenated for the remainder of the season, hinting that the club was targeting continental ticket for the next season.

“We have a mandate from Governor Abiola Ajimobi (of Oyo State) and we will not disappoint the trust he has in us.

“The governor said the team should reclaim its lost glory and compete as a premier team it used to be.

“This mandate is our motivation and it will drive us to success.

“We want to appeal to our fans not to lose hope in us, (but) they should believe in us and we will make them and the state proud at the end of the season,” Mr Busari avowed.

Federation Cup Final To Be Played On November 6

federation cupFederation CupThe Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have confirmed that this year’s men and women Federation Cup final, will be played at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos, on November 6, 2016.

Rivers Angels and Bayelsa Queens will lock horns in the women’s finals which kicks off by 1pm.

While the much-anticipated final between Ifeanyi Ubah Football Club and Nasarawa United will also take place at same venue with the match expected to start at 3.30pm.

Lagos state has hosted the last five finals of the Federation Cup.

Nasarawa United shocked defending champions Enyimba to make it into their dream final, while FC Ifeanyi Ubah defeated giant killers Crown FC 2-1 in Kaduna.

Winners in the Federation Cup get to represent Nigeria in Africa’s second tier club competition, the CAF Confederation Cup.

Nigerian Footballer, Joseph IzuConflicting accounts have continued to trail the killing of Nigerian footballer, Joseph Izu, who was reportedly shot by the Army in Rivers State.

The father and family members accuse soldiers of shooting their son; a claim the Army denies.

Following the tension generated by the incident, Channels Television correspondent Emmanuel Ereyi took a trip to Okaki community to speak to some eyewitnesses.

He also visited the home of the late footballer and the cultist shrine called Ghetto, where he was reportedly killed.

While some persons gave accounts that differed from the position of the Nigerian Army, a suspected cultist claimed that he was present with Joseph at Ghetto when the soldiers stormed the area.

Joseph Izu played for Shooting Stars of Ibadan in the Nigerian Professional Football League.

The defender was in his home town on holiday at the end of the 2015/2016 NPFL season before his death.

 

NPFL: Abia Warriors Vow To ‘Fight’ Wikki In Bauchi

wikki tourists, NPFL, Abia WarriorsAbia Warriors Football Club of Umuahia striker, Chinenye Agoha, has declared that they will give Wikki Tourists a run for their money when they clash in this weekend’s matchday 28 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) encounter at the Abubakar Tafewa Balewa Stadium in Bauchi.

Agoha, who scored the only goal in Abia Warriors’ 1-0 victory over visiting Warri Wolves last Sunday in Umuahia, said the win was a sign of better days ahead.

“We had some bad results in the recent past mainly because of the injury which hit many of our key players but we have overcome that now and ready to re-establish ourselves as one of the best in Nigeria”, Agoha, a mid-season signing said.

According to the Afugiri, Umuahia-born hitman who joined Abia Warriors from Giwa FC of Jos, the players have made up their minds to fight for a good result in Bauchi this weekend.

“We know Wikki is good this season, we are also good and that is why fans should expect good football this weekend”, he said.

Agoha, who was one of the players released by the League Management Company (LMC) to join a club of their choice after Giwa was thrown out of the league for not honouring three matches earlier this season, said he has already warned his captain and friend at Giwa, Charles Henlong who is now with Wikki Tourists to get ready for him as Abia Warriors were not in Bauchi on a picnic but on a serious business.

He said that he was pleased the way the league is being run now as anybody can pick points anywhere without any incidents and commended the LMC and the referees for a job well done so far.

Federation Cup: Round of 16 Matches Postponed

Federation Cup, NFFThe Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has postponed matches of the Round of 16 of the 2016 Men Federation Cup competition as well as the quarter–final matches of the women competition due to the Eid-el-Fitri celebrations.

After the Federal Government announcement on Friday that there would be public holidays on Tuesday, 5th July and Wednesday, 6th July for the Eid-el-Fitri celebrations, the NFF had to reschedule the Round of 16 matches of the men’s competition and the quarter final matches of the women’s event for Tuesday, 12th July and Wednesday, 13th July 2016.

Sunshine Stars of Akure go up against Akwa United in Makurdi on Tuesday, 12th July as Crown FC of Ogbomosho and Enugu Rangers go for a tug in Kaduna on the same day.

In–form Rivers United and five–time champions Shooting Stars will now battle at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna on Wednesday, 13th July, as Wikki Tourists of Bauchi confront Plateau United in Akure in other all –NPFL clashes.

NPFL side FC IfeanyiUbah will take on Katsina United at the Kwara Sports Complex, Ilorin on Wednesday, 13th July while Nasarawa United will test might with Dynamite FC of Benin City at the Confluence Stadium, Lokoja on the same day as Warri Wolves are up against Prime FC of Oshogbo at the Aper Aku Stadium, Makurdi.

NPFL: Ikhana Resigns As Coach Of Shooting Stars

Shooting Stars, Kadiri Ikhana, NPFLKadiri Ikhana on Monday resigned as the Head Coach of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) side, Shooting Stars of Ibadan.

The experienced coach joined the Oluyole Warriors at the beginning of the ongoing season.

Ikhana explained that the failure of the management to issue him a contract paper, almost at the end of the first stanza of the league, prompted his decision.

He lamented that the hardship faced by the players was also one of the reasons he decided to take a walk at the Ibadan warlords.

Reacting to this, the General Manager of Shooting Stars, Rasheed Balogun, told Channels Sports that the club was yet to receive any resignation letter from Mr Ikhana.

He added that he was doing his best to ensure that the welfare of the players improves as soon as possible.

Shooting Stars are presently 18 on the NPFL table after being defeated by Wikki Tourists of Bauchi on Sunday.

NPFL Match Day 2: Enyimba, Nasarawa and Akwa Matches Rescheduled

EnyimbaMatch Day 2 fixtures involving three clubs in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) have been rescheduled and will now be played on March 16, 2016.

The fixtures are Akwa United versus Ikorodu United, Enyimba International versus Shooting Stars and FC Ifeanyi Ubah vs Nasarawa United.

Chief Operating Officer of the League Management Company, Salihu Abubakar, explained that the Match Day 2 fixtures have been postponed because the clubs will be involved in continental competitions. Match Day 3 fixtures involving the three clubs will accordingly be played on March 23, 2016.

“The clubs were already not in the Match Day 3 fixtures due to their continental fixtures holding on the weekend of February 26-28 but we have received representations from officials of the three clubs pleading to be allowed to focus on their continental fixtures”, Abubakar explained.

Nasarawa United are already billed to leave for Dakar, Senegal on Tuesday for the second leg of their CAF Confederation Cup tie against AS Academie Demonstration Foot. The first leg ended with the Lafia side in a narrow 2-1 win.

Enyimba International will host Vipers of Uganda in the second leg of the CAF Champions League after losing the first leg 1-0 in Kampala. The match will hold at the Adokie Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt.

Akwa United will also play their second leg tie of the CAF Confederations Cup against Vita Club de Mokanda of Congo.

Abubakar said the adjustment in fixtures will not affect other clubs whose games will be played this Wednesday as previously scheduled.

Match Day 1 of the Nigeria Professional Football League recorded 17 goals, four away victories, three draws and three home wins.

Enyimba, Pillars Others Record Victory In NPFL Week 35 Games

The League leaders have 65 points from 35 games, six points above Warri Wolves who have a game in hand.

Dolphins of Port Harcourt moved off the relegation zone, following a 2-0 win against El-Kanemi Warriors, and Giwa FC moved to third spot on the league table, following a 3-2 win against Wikki Tourists.

FC Ifeanyi Ubah also defeated Heartland of Owerri by a lone goal, while another Port Harcourt based team, Sharks beat Shooting Stars 2-1

npfl-enyimba-fcThe Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) has recorded an impressive 19 away victories this season, with Enyimba of Aba securing a 2-1 away win over Rangers.

Despite the victory, the Aba team are still second on the log and that is because Sunshine Stars battled to a 2-1 win over Taraba FC to maintain their lead.

Gbenga Ogunbote’s Shooting Stars returned to winning ways, beating El-kanemi Warriors 2-1 in Ibadan, while Kwara United kept their fine form with a 3-1 victory over Giwa FC.

Current champions, Kano Pillars, earned a vital point away from home after a hard fought 3-3 draw against Lobi Stars.

Also, Abia Warriors beat FC Ifeanyi Ubah by a lone goal; Nasarawa United also beat Dolphins 1-0; and the match between Akwa United and Bayelsa United ended 1-0 in favour of Akwa United.
