Aminu Nets Eight Points In Blazers Win

al-farouq-aminuNational Basketball Association (NBA), D’Tigers forward, Al-Farouq Aminu, scored eight points as the Portland Trail Blazers continued its push for the playoffs with a 112-100 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The 26-year-old old Nigerian, shot four of five from the field to go along with six rebounds and two steals in 27 minutes of play.

Portland is currently 9th in the Western Conference and also got 32 points from shooting guard, C. J. McCollum.

They would visit the Los Angeles Lakers in their next game come Sunday.

Rohr Calls Olarenwaju Kayode To Replace Osimhen In Friendlies

The Austria Vienna striker has been invited to replace Wolfsburg’s Victor Osimhen, who has been ruled out of the matches owing to an injury.

Kayode has yet to make his debut for the Super Eagles, though he has represented Nigeria at the youth level, notably playing in the 2009 Under-17 World Cup and Under-20 World Cup in 2011 and 2013.

Nigeria would face Senegal on March 23 and Burkina Faso on March 27.

Both matches would be held at the Hive Stadium in London.

Fernando Torres In Stable Condition, Discharged From Hospital

Fernando TorresAtletico Madrid Striker Fernando Torres has been discharged from hospital after having tests on the head injury he suffered in Thursday’s 1-1 draw with Deportivo La Coruna.

The 32-year-old spent the night in the hospital after falling heavily in an aerial challenge with Alex Bergantinos.

Atletico confirmed scans showed he has “no traumatic alterations or injuries” and will need to rest for 48 hours.

The club finished the game with 10 men, having used all three substitutes.

Enrique To Leave Barca By End Of Season

Enrique made the announcement at a news conference after Barcelona thrashed Sporting Gijon 6-1 at the Nou Camp, to keep up their bid for a third league title under the management of their former midfielder.

Barcelona won the treble in their first season under Enrique after he replaced Gerardo Martino in 2014 and followed it up with a double last season.

However, performances as much as results this season have led to increased speculation over his future.

Fifa, World Cup DrawFIFA has confirmed the worldwide extension of sanctions imposed by the Nigerian Football Federation’s (NFF), Disciplinary Committee on May, 12, 2016 against Christopher Giwa, Muazu Suleyman, Yahaya Adama, Sani Fema and Johnson Effiong, for breaches of the NFF Statutes and the FIFA Code of Ethics.

In accordance with Art. 136ff of the FIFA Disciplinary Code, the chairman of the FIFA Disciplinary Committee has decided to extend the five-year ban from taking part in any kind of football-related activity imposed on the five officials to have worldwide effect.

The quintet were suspended on Thursday in relation to the contest for the leadership of Nigerian football.

After reviewing the charges, available facts and evidence, the NFF Disciplinary Committee found the officials guilty of illegally representing the NFF in breach of Art. 40 of the NFF Statutes, when they without due authorization and mandate purported to contract a Law Firm, Messrs Leslie Cohen & Associates of Illovo Law Chambers, 4 Fricker Road, Ground Floor, South Africa in the name of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and refused to pay for services whereby the said Messrs Leslie Cohen & Associates commenced proceedings against the NFF for the sum of  one hundred thousand dollars ($100,000) being legal fees for professional services rendered in the High Court of South Africa, Gauteng Local Division, Johannesburg.

The officials were also found guilty of breaching Art. 69(1) of the NFF Statutes by taking football matters to the ordinary court and failing to submit to the jurisdiction of FIFA and the NFF.

In addition, Christopher Giwa was charged for breaching the general rules of conduct as contained in Art. 13 of the FIFA Code of Ethics when he invaded the premises of the Nigeria Football Federation and falsely presented himself as President of the NFF on 6th May, 2016.

Nevertheless, the relevant member associations as well as CAF have been duly notified of the chairman’s decision.

Simeone Charges Atletico Madrid Ahead Of King’s Cup Semi-Final

Atletico Madrid Coach, Diego Simeone says his side would have to be at its best to beat Barcelona in tonight’s second leg of the king’s Cup semi-final.

Coach Diego Simeone’s side are aiming for their first Cup final appearance since the 2012-13 campaign title win.

“The only result that would satisfy me is to reach the final,” Simeone said.

Atletico, who have not won at Barcelona since a 3-1 victory on February the 5th, 2006, need to score at least two goals to progress.

Federer Celebrates Australian Open Victory

Roger Federer,The Australian Open champion, Roger Federer, has celebrated his ‘fairy-tale’ victory and his 18th Grand Slam title at the men’s Australian Tennis Open championship trophy in Melbourne.

The 35-year-old stayed at Melbourne Park until the early hours of Monday before returning to his hotel.

In an interview, the Champion said:

“It was a long night, but a lot of fun. Everybody was in such a good mood — it was a special day, a special couple of weeks.

“We celebrated in a great way, being silly, having fun, chatting about everything. All the stress went away.

Federer has climbed to 10th in the rankings after his win and says it was his self-belief when he had been trailing 3-1 in the final set that had helped him to victory.

He has won his first Grand Slam title in five years on Sunday, defeating Rafael Nadal in a five-set final, winning 6-4, 3-6, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3.

AFCON: Host Nation Crash Out

footballHost nation, Gabon, have crashed out of the Africa Cup of Nations at the group stage after a goalless draw against Cameroon in the final round of games in group A.

However, the draw hands the Indomitable Lions a spot in the last eight, after finishing second behind group leaders Burkina Faso.

Burkina Faso defeated Guinea-Bissau 2-0. An own goal from Rudinilson Silva and Bertrand Traore handed the Stallions their first victory in the group.

The two teams join Senegal, and Ghana who have already qualified for the quarter-finals.
