2015 Election: Suleiman Urges PDP Members To Unite

Minister of National Planning, Abubakar suliemanThe Minister of National Planning, Dr Abubakar Suleiman, has urged members of the Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to unite and work harmoniously for the success of the party in next year’s general elections.

Dr Suleiman, who made the call during a reception held in his honour following his appointment as the Minister of National Planning, also absolved President Goodluck Jonathan of any blame in the insecurity witnessed in the country.

The reception was attended by party members across the 16 Local Government Areas of the state.

The Minister, who arrived at the Ilorin International Airport, was welcomed with a long convoy provided by the party members resulting in a gridlock over a period of time.

Those who could not gain entrance made do with the space provided outside.

He thanked the entire members of the party for the honour and urged them to exhibit the spirit of oneness in choosing the gubernatorial candidate of the party in the state.

He asked party members to always ask questions on how the resources of the state are being spent by the government.

The State Chairman of the Party, Iyiola Oyedepo, thanked the party faithful for their support and loyalty to the party and pledged to continue providing the wherewithal for the growth of the party.

Other speakers at the occasion include; the Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters, Suleiman Ajadi, Chairman of the Federal Character Commission, Professor Shuaib Abduraheem and Former Minister for Transport, Issa Bio Ibrahim, among others.

A PDP Chieftain in the State, Bola Shagaya urged party members to avoid rumours and work for the progress of the party in all elections.

 

 

PDP Kwara Holds Rally To Dispel Rumour Of Factions

In order to dismiss the notion of disunity and rancour among leaders of the People’s Democratic Party in Kwara State, a rally was organized where the political gladiators in the state resolved to continue working together for the party to reclaim victory in next general election.

The leaders of the party vowed that the national leadership would not woo those who left the party back and described them as spent forces who could not contribute to the success of the party in the state.

A mammoth crowd thronged the temporary state secretariat of the PDP along Oyun road in Ilorin, where the members took off for the rally, at the Lower Niger River Basin Authority. The crowd caused traffic hold up for several hours while the crowd at the venue could be described as unprecedented in the political history of the state.

Most of the leaders who spoke in Yoruba came out one after another to announce their presence and dispel the rumour of crisis and factions within the party. They include Gbemisola Saraki, Dele Belgore, Issa Ibrahim and Professor Shuaib Oba among others.

The State Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of the party, Solomon Edoja, thanked Kwara people for expressing their support to the national leadership of the party and the President, assuring them that President Jonathan would visit the state next Monday.

While answering questions on when the National Chairman of the PDP would visit Kwara in order to woo the defectors back to the party, the Caretaker Chairman, noted that this might not be necessary again.

The Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters, Suleiman Ajadi, also described the crowd as true members of the party and Kwarans who want freedom and spread of dividends of democracy.

He dismissed the notion of factions among the leaders of the party, and assured them that they had resolved to work together in unity, in order to reclaim the state in the 2015 election.

The open space play ground was filled with both young and old, who displayed the banners of different leaders in the state.

Kwara PDP Challenges APC Threat To Recall Senator

In reaction to the threat by Kwara South stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to recall the only People’s Democratic Party (PDP) senator from the state, Simeon Ajibola, members of the PDP from the zone have expressed their support and loyalty to the senator.

The PDP members who converged on Illoffa, the headquarters of Oke-Ero Local Government, passed a vote of confidence on Senator Simeon Ajibola, assuring him of their continued support, while also calling on President Jonathan to urgently declare his intention to run for the presidency in 2015.

The PDP members were reacting to a statement signed by the Secretary of the Kwara South Stakeholders APC Forum, Yemi Afolayan, where the party had threatened to recall the PDP Senator, for non-performance among other allegations.

The PDP group, consisting politicians, professional bodies and market leaders from the seven local governments making up the constituency converged to counter the threat and express their support for the PDP senator.

A PDP leader in the state and spokesman for the group, Suleiman Ajadi, noted that the senator has been representing them well and they have no plan or intention to recall the man whom they see as the ‘Moses of their time’ adding that he has liberated them from poverty and servitude.

Another PDP leader in the state, Moses Ibiyemi, wondered how APC as a party would threaten to recall someone elected on the platform of PDP, adding that only legitimate members of his party platform could institute such process.

The representative of the youth wing of the party, who also doubles as a member of the State Caretaker Committee, Aliyu Dansofo, expressed the support of the youths in the state for the senator and called on President Jonathan not to delay in declaring his intention to run for second term, having performed satisfactorily in all sectors.
