Iheanacho Scores As Manchester City Defeats Sporting Kansas City

IheanachoFormer Under 17 World cup star, Kelechi Iheanacho scored a goal in Manchester City’s emphatic win over Sporting Kansas City on Thursday.

Iheanacho played almost the full game as the English Premier League champions began their tour of the USA with a 4-1 victory over Sporting Kansas, scored a late goal with an accomplished finish.

The 17 year old, who scored six goals in seven matches for the Manu Garba tutored Golden Eaglets side at the FIFA Under 17 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates last year, winning the Silver Boot as the second highest goalscorer and the Golden Ball as the best player, produced an eye-catching performance, earning praises from coach Manuel Pellegrini.

Pellegrini also hinted that Iheanacho has a bright future at the club and will be important in future.

“Kelechi is just 17 years old and he’s a very important player for us in the future. He demonstrated today what he can do in the future.

“It depends on the way he takes this profession, but I think he’s a good talent. He’s a very important player for the future for the club”, he said.

Iheanacho joined the squad on the trip to Scotland, alongside compatriot Chidiebere Nwakali, for games against Dundee and Hearts and was then invited into Manuel Pellegrini’s 23-man squad for the tour of the United States.

Other scorers for the EPL winners were Bruno Zuculini , Dedryck Boyata and Aleksandar Kolarov with CJ Sapong getting a consolation for Sporting Kansas City.

In the mean time, it is believed that he will be loaned out to a club outside England despite his impressive performance so far in the pre – season  as Manchester City are working really hard to secure a work permit for him which might take a while as he has not had a game for the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

U-17 World Cup: Nigeria Beat Iraq 5-0, Qualify for Round of 16

Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets put the final nail on the coffin of Iraq, defeating the Asians 5-nil in what was seen by many as a one sided affair at the FIFA U-17 world cup.

The Golden Eaglets started like a house on fire with 4 first half goals, Musa Mohammed, Chidiebere Nwakali and Musa Yayaha all got on the scorer sheet.

The Manu Garba led boys started from where they left off in the first half as substitute Chigozie Obasi’s goal in the 90th minute made it 5 for Nigeria.

Elsewhere in group F, Mexico defeated Sweden 1-0. With this results Nigeria top the group with 7 points, followed by Mexico with  6 points, while the Sweedes have 4 and Iraq finished with no point.

Nigeria has now qualified for the round of 16 and will be facing the second placed team in group E.

Nigeria has not lost a group-stage game at any U-17 World Cup since way back in 1993.

 

President Jonathan Congratulates Golden Eaglets

Meanwhile President Goodluck Jonathan has congratulated the Golden Eaglets of Nigeria on their 5-0 defeat of Iraq in the on-going FIFA Under-17 world cup in the United Arab Emirates.

President Jonathan urged them to maintain the exemplary dedication, commitment and resilience they have exhibited thus far in the competition until ultimate victory is achieved.

He assures them of the support of the Federal Government as they continue in the competition.
