Whitney Houston, Biggie Among Rock Hall Of Fame Potentials

First time Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominees Whitney Houston and the Notorious B.I.G. topped this year’s short-list of potential inductees, the institution announced Tuesday.

The late music icons are among 16 acts vying for a coveted spot, joined by performers and groups including Soundgarden, Depeche Mode, Dave Matthews Band, Motorhead, Pat Benatar and The Doobie Brothers.

This year’s field is marked by three legendary artists who died young.

The Notorious B.I.G. — a pride of New York, widely considered one of the greatest rappers of all time — was nominated in his first year of eligibility, which comes 25 years after the release of an act’s first commercial recording.

The artist born Christopher Wallace and colloquially known as Biggie was murdered in 1997 in Los Angeles at age 24, in a still-murky shooting that some speculated was part of a feud between East Coast and West Coast rappers.

Houston, the most awarded female artist of all time, died at 48 years old in 2012 after a public struggle with drugs, following a decade that saw her go from America’s sweetheart to tabloid drama queen.

And the first nomination after several years of eligibility of seminal grunge act Soundgarden includes former frontman Chris Cornell, who committed suicide in 2017 at the age of 52.

The new class of inductees will be announced in January 2020, with the annual star-powered ceremony set for May 2 in the hall of fame’s home city of Cleveland, Ohio.

Germany’s electronic music pioneers Kraftwerk are also up for the honor, with Nine Inch Nails, Judas Priest, Rufus featuring Chaka Khan, MC5, Todd Rundgren, T.Rex and Thin Lizzy rounding out the pack.

Inductees are chosen following a survey of more than 1,000 musicians, historians and industry members, who consider an act’s career work, innovation, skill and influence in voting in new members.

The estate of Whitney Houston has struck a deal aiming to revive the late superstar’s brand, potentially launching a touring hologram and album of unreleased music.

New York-based company Primary Wave Music Publishing announced Monday it penned an agreement with megacelebrity Houston’s estate, acquiring 50 percent of its assets including royalties from her music, films and merchandising.

The most awarded female artist of all time, Houston died at 48 years old in 2012 after a public struggle with drugs, following a decade that saw her go from America’s sweetheart to tabloid drama queen.

“With Primary Wave’s global appeal and wealth of contacts, the partnership will advance the artistry and integrity of Whitney’s legacy to a stratosphere that she herself left us all to enjoy for a lifetime,” Pat Houston, the late artist’s sister-in-law and executor of the estate, said in a statement.

“Before she passed, there was so much negativity around the name; it wasn’t about the music anymore,” Pat Houston told The New York Times.

“People had forgotten how great she was. They let all the personal things about her life outweigh why they fell in love with her in the first place.”

She told the paper a hologram tour featuring the artist’s laser-generated likeness is the first priority of the new contract, which could be followed by branding deals and a potential Broadway musical.

“Whitney Houston is an incomparable artist whose voice resonates in people’s lives to this day,” said Lawrence Mestel, head of Primary Wave, which focuses on marketing classic catalogues of megawatt names including Bob Marley, Smokey Robinson and Def Leppard.

“She is the definition of an icon and we are thrilled to partner with Pat Houston and the entire Houston family to further the legacy of this legendary artist.”

Documentary Shows Whitney Houston Abused As A Child

Whitney Houston

A new documentary about the life of Whitney Houston claims that the tragic singer was sexually abused as a child by her cousin, soul musician Dee Dee Warwick.

The revelation in “Whitney”, which was made with the co-operation of the singer’s family, comes late in the film by Oscar-winning Scottish director Kevin Macdonald, which was premiered Thursday at the Cannes film festival.

Houston’s assistant, Mary Jones, who Whitney called “Aunt Mary”, discovered her face down in a Beverly Hills bath the night she died, told the filmmakers that she was abused as a child and was later unable to come to terms with her sexuality.

It may help to shine a new light on the singer’s descent into drug addiction and early death at 48 in 2012.

Houston’s destructive relationship with the rapper Bobby Brown is also tackled in the documentary, by the maker of “One Day in September” about Black September hostage-taking at the 1972 Munich Olympics.

Brown tells the film that drugs had nothing to do with Houston’s death, although the coroner said it was a contributing factor.

Dee Dee Warwick was the younger sister of the soul legend Dionne Warwick. She also struggled with drug addiction and died aged 63 in 2008.

Macdonald told AFP that he always wondered what was at the root of Houston’s unhappiness.

“For a long time, I had looked at her on screen and thought there’s something about this woman that feels so uncomfortable.

“She doesn’t enjoy her own body in some way. She’s very beautiful but not sexual, she feels uncomfortable in her skin. I began to wonder whether it was abuse.

“Then somebody told me that they had spoken to Whitney about it and that’s what she had said had happened to her, and she felt that that was the origins of her unhappiness.”

Whitney Houston’s soaring gospel voice made her one of the biggest pop stars of the 1990s, selling 170 million albums and starring in the smash hit Hollywood love story, “The Bodyguard”.

“Whitney” is the second film about the tragic singer in less than a year. Another British documentary maker, Nick Broomfield, released his “Whitney: Can I Be Me” late last year.

Muyiwa Set To Drop ‘Eko Ile’ On October 30

Muyiwa Set To Drop 'Eko Ile' On October 30UK-based Nigerian gospel artist, Olanrewaju Muyiwa, says his first all-African album ‘Eko Ile’ will be out on October 30.

The United Kingdom’s most prolific gospel artist noted that a UK tour announcement would follow the release of the dynamic 10-track album.

‘Eko Ile’ follows the success of Live at the Apollo (2012), the live CD and DVD recorded at his sold-out Hammersmith Apollo show with Riversongz, his charismatic Afro-gospel band.

Muyiwa explained in a statement that ‘Eko Ile’ is a return to his roots translating to ‘Lagos my home’ which harks to a Nigerian folk song of the same name. Muyiwa channels a myriad of African music styles via gospel.

“Written alongside Kwame Yeboah (Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Ms. Dynamite) and Eddie Martin (Whitney Houston, Neyo, Chris Brown) and produced by the former, the album is a journey from east to west of the continent, stopping off at high-life reminiscent of fellow countryman Fela Kuti, refreshed takes on traditional African praise, and African reggae,” he said in the statement.

“It makes sense then, that the album was predominantly recorded in Ghana, that it frequently features Muyiwa’s native Nigerian tongue of Yoruba and that it’s peppered with Swahili, Zulu, and Pidgin English.”

Whitney Houston’s Daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown, Dies At 22

Bobbi KristinaBobbi Kristina Brown, the only child of late singer Whitney Houston, died on Sunday at the age of 22, some six months after suffering irreversible brain damage in an incident at her suburban Atlanta home, her family said in a statement.

Brown, whose father is R&B singer Bobby Brown, was found face down and unresponsive in a bathtub in her home by her partner and a friend on January 31. She was moved by her family to hospice care on June 24.

“She is finally at peace in the arms of God,” her family said. “We want to again thank everyone for their tremendous amount of love and support during these last few months.”

As news of her death became public, media crews and some fans gathered on a darkened cul de sac in the Atlanta suburb of Duluth, where ornate street lamps illuminated the ivy-covered brick nursing home where Brown died.

“We just wanted to show our respect,” said Ali Joyner, 15, who persuaded her mum and a neighbour to drive the 20 miles from their home in Dacula, Ga. “I just loved her mum, Whitney. And Bobbi is part of that.”

Her death came three years after her Grammy-winning mother, who had battled substance abuse, drowned in a bathtub in a Beverly Hills hotel at age 48. Authorities said cocaine abuse and heart disease contributed to Houston’s February 11, 2012 death.

Bobbi Kristina Brown inherited her mother’s fortune.

A $10 million civil lawsuit filed last month accuses Bobbi Kristina Brown’s partner, Nick Gordon, of causing her life-threatening injuries and of stealing from her bank account while she was in a coma. No one has been charged in the case.

Bobbi Kristina Brown was an aspiring singer who began performing with her mother as early as 1999, singing duets of “My Love is Your Love.” In 2003 they recorded another duet of “Little Drummer Boy” for a holiday album.

Her father is a Grammy Award winner who started his career as frontman for the R&B group New Edition.

Houston and Bobby Brown both struggled with substance abuse and divorced when their daughter was 14. Houston described their 15-year marriage, which ended in 2007, as drug- and alcohol-fueled.

The couple’s tempestuous relationship and often erratic behavior was chronicled in the short-lived television series, “Being Bobby Brown.”

Bobbi Kristina Brown was hospitalized twice with anxiety after her mother’s death.

In 2012 she starred on Lifetime’s reality TV show, “The Houstons: On Our Own,” in which Houston’s family struggled to recover from the famous singer’s death. The same year Bobbi Kristina Brown guest-starred on “For Better or Worse,” a television series about a married couple.

Bobbi Kristina Has “Irreversible Brain Damage” – Grandmother

channels_television_whitney_bobbiCissy Houston, mother of late singer Whitney Houston and grandmother of Bobbi Kristina has revealed that the 22- year old’s medical condition has not improved as indicated by her father, singer Bobby Brown.

In an interview with U.S. based People magazine, the 81-year-old woman said: “I have just returned from visiting my granddaughter Bobbi Kristina in the hospital and while she is no longer in a medically induced coma, she has tracheotomy and according to the doctors she has global and irreversible brain damage and remains unresponsive.

“Meeting with the doctors and understanding that she can live in this condition for a lifetime truly saddens me, We can only trust in God for a miracle at this time. Keep us in your prayers”.

Trouble began in January when Bobbi was found unconscious in her bathtub, at her home in Atlanta.

Bobbi Kristina Brown Is ‘Not Brain Dead?

bobbi kristinaFamily members of Bobbi Kristina Brown have been visiting her bedside since she was hospitalised on Saturday after being found unconscious in her bathtub, at her home in Atlanta.

Whitney Houston’s only child is now at Emory University Hospital and is still fighting for her life, as a family statement said on Monday.

Nothing has changed, despite reports that are popping up and painting a more serious picture.

According to reports, It’s now a matter of when the family wants to let go and accept that she’s pretty much not going to make it. They’ve left it up to the family as to how long they want to keep her alive.

Meanwhile other reports say a doctor told Brown’s family on Wednesday that nothing more could be done. “Everyone is coming to the hospital to say goodbye,” said a family member.

Bobby Brown issued a statement late Thursday denying these reports.

“If we issued a statement every time the media published a false report regarding this matter, that’s all we would be doing 24 hours a day. This is false, just as is the vast majority of the other reporting that is currently taking place,” he said.

A source close to the family said that it was wrong to say the family was gathering to say goodbye. “Because the family has been there since the beginning, so nothing is any different today for them.”

Also, Brown is “not brain dead,” as has been reported.

“And, as for other stories saying that the Houston family is feuding with Bobbi Kristina’s dad, bobby brown? Those aren’t true either. They “are not fighting,” some news reporters stated.
