Kaduna Govt. Meets With Community Heads Over Crisis

Kaduna Govt. Meets With Community Heads Over CrisisThe Acting Governor of Kaduna State, Bala Bantex, has met with community leaders from different parts of Nigeria that are resident in the state.

The meeting, which included security agencies, was organised following the recent clash between Hausas and Yorubas in Ile Ife, Osun State, as well as the lingering violence in Southern Kaduna.

It was also convened to forestall any form of reprisal attacks in Kaduna State, and seek the support of the leaders in finding  solutions to the Southern Kaduna crisis which has claimed so many lives.

Resident community leaders comprising of Igbo, Yoruba, Igala and others from various part of the country gathered at the Government House, on the invitation of the Kaduna State Government.

Speaking, Mr Bantex warned those trying to incite unnecessary tensions in the state as a result of recent events elsewhere to desist from circulating videos, images and making inciting comments.

He appealed to the community leaders to prevail on their subjects to uphold peace in the state, remain calm and firmly reject any attempt to drag them into any form of violent behaviour.

Enemies Of Peace

“Those trying to incite unnecessary tensions in the state because of what is happening in Ile Ife, Osun State should desist from circulating videos and images with inciting commentary and calls to citizens for reprisals.

“Already, the unfortunate incidents in that part of the country have been contained and taken care of, so the government will not watch enemies of peace capitalising on the situation to cause problems in Kaduna State, using images and videos to incite reprisals.

“People circulating images and calling for reprisals are enemies of peaceful society, and all citizens must say no to them.

“The Kaduna State Government is determined to ensure that anyone or group of persons distributing images and videos calling for revenge are arrested and prosecuted.

“Citizens must support the government to ensure that every threat to law and order in the state is defeated,” he said.

Speaking on the crisis in Southern Kaduna, the Acting Governor noted that the violence was purely an act of criminality and banditry, contrary to the Christian against Muslim crisis as widely believed.

Some traditional rulers at the meeting

According to him, the most peaceful local government area in Kaduna State is Jaba Local Government Area, which is one of the eight local governments that make up the ‘Zone Three’ called Southern Kaduna.

The leader of the Community Leaders Forum and President-General of Yoruba Traditional Rulers Council in the 19 Northern States, Abdulganiyu Oguntoyinbo, in his response said those responsible for the Ile Ife crisis did not represent the Yorubas as a people.

He urged the Yoruba community in Kaduna and Northern Nigeria to remain calm, peaceful and shun reprisal attacks.

“We are tired of blood spilling and we therefore appeal to our political, religious and traditional leaders irrespective of their differences to come together and find a lasting solution to the recurring crises,” Oguntoyinbo said.

While commending the Kaduna State Government for convening the meeting to acquaint them on the measures taken to protect lives and properties of citizens, especially the non-indigenes, he lauded the Governor, Nasir El-Rufai’s administration for the ongoing infrastructural development in the state.

Although the community leaders commended the recent steps taken by government and security agencies to end the attacks in Southern Kaduna, they expressed concern over the negative consequence of the crisis on the socio-economic development of the state.

Reports say so far, many lives and properties were reportedly lost in about 10 sectarian crises in Kaduna State in the past 30 years.

PDP Lawmakers, Supporters Protest Fayose’s Impeachment Plot In Ekiti

FAYOSEReports say there has been a protest in Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital, against the House of Assembly’s plot to impeach the State Governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, over alleged constitutional breaches.

Heavy security has been put in place in strategic locations in Ado Ekiti, while entry routes have been blocked and taken over by security operatives.

The political drama in Ekiti State continues as the supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state were prevented by the Police from gaining access to the State House of Assembly.

The PDP supporters, led by the Deputy Governor and a former Speaker of the House Of Assembly who claimed to be on a campaign, were said to have moved to prevent the 19 lawmakers of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from performing their legislative duties.

But the Commissioner of Police, Ekiti State Command, Taiwo Lakanu, said that his men intervened to prevent a breakdown of law and order.

The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, had condemned what the party calls an emerging height of political recklessness in the state.

The PDP National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh, in a 13 paragraph statement asked Nigerians to stand against anti-democratic tendencies.

Mr Metuh said that he was worried about the impeachment plot against the Ekiti State Governor and called on the President-Elect, Gen Muhammadu Buhari, to intervene as leader of the party and call the APC to order.

Ekiti Impeachment Plot: PDP Describes Move As Political Recklessness

The national leadership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned in strongest terms, what the party calls an emerging height of political recklessness in Lagos and Ekiti States.

The PDP National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh, in a statement on Monday called on Nigerians to stand against anti-democratic tendencies.

Mr Metuh said he was practically worried about the impeachment plot against the Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fasoye and the alleged threat against non-indegenes on voting, by the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu.

He said: “The PDP totally and unequivocally rejects the flimsy and unsubstantiated allegations concocted by the All Progressives Congress (APC) legislation against Governor Fasoye. We state in very clear terms that we will stand with him and in defence of democracy.

“We invite all lovers of democracy and the international community to note the antics of APC and the deliberate plot to destabilize the polity even when it is yet to assume power”.

He also condemned the alleged call by the Lagos Oba for vote for the APC candidate during the governorship election, a claim the Oba has refuted.

The PDP spokesperson however, called on the President-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari, to intervene, as a leader of the party and call the Ekiti and Lagos States APC to order.

The party further called on Nigerians, especially those in Lagos and Ekiti States, to stand up fearlessly and reject the unpatriotic stance of the Oba of Lagos and the undemocratic move to dismantle the mandate given to Governor Ayo Fayose by the people.

Lagos, Ekiti Threats, A Plunge To Anarchy, PDP Alerts

…Vows To Resist Anti Democratic Tendencies

The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) condemns in the strongest possible terms the emerging height of political recklessness in Lagos and Ekiti states ahead of Saturday’s governorship and House of Assembly elections and calls on all Nigerians to stand up against such anti-democratic tendencies.

The senseless and unpatriotic impeachment move against Governor Ayo Fayose by out-going APC state legislators and the barbaric death threats on non-indigenes in Lagos by the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu if they vote for the PDP candidate, Mr. Jimi Agbaje ascend to a height of unruliness that should not be accommodated.

The PDP totally and unequivocally rejects the flimsy and unsubstantiated allegations concocted by the APC legislators against Governor Fayose. We state in very clear terms that we will stand with him and bear our full weight in defense of the mandate freely given to him by the people of Ekiti state.

We invite all lovers of democracy and the international community to note the antics of APC and the deliberate plot to destabilize the polity even when it is yet to assume power.

In the same vein, it is indeed most unfortunate that a royal father of the status of the Oba of Lagos should attempt to drag the revered traditional institution into partisan politics to the level of threatening innocent Nigerians with the view to prevent them from freely exercising their constitutionally guaranteed right.

Our response to the Oba of Lagos is that he cannot play God and can never be God. God owns the universe and every part of it and can never share His glory with any human no matter how highly placed. We therefore call on all Nigerians in Lagos state; all Igbos, Hausas, Yorubas and people of other tribes; all northerners and southerners; all Christians and Muslims to turn against this unpatriotic stance, by coming out enmasse to vote for the PDP candidate, Mr. Jimi Agbaje on Saturday.

Undoubtedly, this anti-Nigeria position reminds of the 2013 inhuman and callous arrest, detention and eventual ‘deportation’ of non-indigenes by the APC-led government of Lagos state and confirms fears that the APC is indeed on a mission to destroy our national unity, balkanize the nation and obliterate the personal freedom Nigerians enjoy today.

Already, the APC has started terrorizing supporters of the PDP with vows to make life unbearable for them when it eventually assumes power. Our investigation reveals that many of our prominent supporters have been marked. The process has already started with threats to the life, family and business of the Chairman of the Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria (TAN), Dr. Ifeanyi Ubah for supporting PDP candidates and helping non-indigenes win some Lagos seats in the National Assembly on the platform of the our great party.

Indeed, if this threats on a duly elected state governor and innocent Nigerians constitute the picture or foretaste of the order of the day when the APC finally assumes power at the center, then the nation is in serious danger. However, the PDP states in very unambiguous terms that Nigerians would not accept such under any guise whatsoever.

This is more so because in the last 16 years, our citizens from all walks of lives have seen civility and decorum under the PDP-led administration and would not accept any attempt by anybody to institute a reign of terror in the country

We therefore urge General Muhammadu Buhari as the leader of the APC to call his members and supporters, particularly in Lagos and Ekiti to order; especially bearing in mind that it was the peaceful atmosphere and the level playing ground nurtured by the PDP-led administration that created the room for his emergence at the presidential polls.

Our country cannot at this moment afford to slide into anarchy, reign of terror and deliberate schemes to divide the people for selfish political reasons.

The PDP will completely resist all anti democratic forces from any quarters. We therefore charge Nigerians, especially those in Lagos and Ekiti states respectively to stand up fearlessly and reject the unpatriotic stance of the Oba of Lagos and the undemocratic move to dismantle the mandate given to Governor Ayo Fayose by the people.

Signed:

Olisa Metuh
National Publicity Secretary

Afenifere Congratulates Osun Citizens

AfenifereThe Afenifere Renewal Group (ARG) has thrown its weight behind the outcome of the Osun State governorship election.

The Pan-Yoruba group applauded the citizens of the State “for keeping faith with progressive politics that Yorubas are known for despite the heavy militarization and monetization politics that besieged them.”

In a statement released on Sunday by the group’s Publicity Secretary, Kunle Famoriyo, the group also congratulated the winner of the election, Governor Rauf Aregbesola, and charged him to renew his zeal for “welfarist” politics as exemplified by Chief Obafemi Awolowo.

“We thank the people of Osun for resisting strange politics that seeks to take root in our land. As the source of Yoruba progeny, they have shown us an example and we are confident they would be better off for it,” the statement said, while calling on all Yorubas to a renaissance of Yoruba progressive politics.

3 die, 30 vehicles burn in Ogun communal clash

3 persons lost their lives while 30 vehicles were burnt when a clash occured between Hausa and Yoruba in Ibese, Yewa North Local Government of Ogun State on Wednesday.

The Chairman of the task force in the affected market, Sikirulah Akinsola, confirmed  that the violence erupted due to a disagreement between two persons over a commercial sex worker.

The violence was said to have later escalated and became an inter-tribal crisis.

About 25 articulated vehicles, three cars and five motorcycles were said to have been destroyed in the violence. Also, almost all the shops in the nearby market were reportedly looted.

Akinsola, who also doubles as the Bada Orile of Ijako Village, a suburb of the town, said more than 200 persons of Yoruba extraction who felt aggrieved by the alleged killing of their kinsman had decided to demonstrate on the streets when the crisis erupted.

The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi confirmed the incident, but said no one was killed.

Adejobi, an assistant superintendent of police however said the violence in the town had nothing to do with ethnicity.

He said, “It was caused by a prostitute and some of the drivers had a problem with some men who claimed to be Ibese indigenes. There was no ethnic colouration. There was no casualty and only 14 vehicles were burnt.”

Armed policemen were deployed in the troubled town to forestall further break down of law and order while an Armoured Personnel Carrier was seen stationed in front of the Dangote Cement Factory located within the community.
