The ECOWAS Commission has given its nod to Ivory Coast to host the ECOWAS games in 2014.

The agreement on the hosting rights for the games which started in 2011 was signed by the Commission and the Ivorian government with the President of the ECOWAS Commission, Kadre Desire Ouédraogo, and the Côte d’Ivoire’s Minister of Youth Development, Sports and Entertainment, Honourable Alain Lobognon at a brief ceremony in Abidjan.

Côte d’Ivoire got the nod to host the biennial games at the end of the second edition of the fiesta in June 2012, which was hosted and won by Ghana. The August 2014 Games is expected to be held in Yamoussoukro, the Ivorian political capital.

Five sports – athletics, traditional wrestling, handball, volleyball and boxing – feature in the under-23 regional competition, first hosted by Nigeria in September 2010.
