Ibrahim MaishanuThe Nigeria police say the reported bomb explosion in Ile-Ife, Osun state is a dynamite diffusion and not Bomb explosion as earlier perceived.

Osun State Police Command investigating the cause of the explosion said it was not a bomb as thought by people.

The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Maishanu, told Channels Television in Osogbo, the state capital on Wednesday, that the explosion did not affect any property and that no life was lost as the scene of the explosion was a deserted area.

According to him, the dynamite was said to have first exploded at about 4.30am before the police Anti bomb squad diffused the other one found close to the dilapidated house.

He said that the shrapnel recovered at the scene of the blast was not one known to be used by the members of a terrorist group, Boko Haram, that has carried out series of attacks on villages and schools and churches in the northeast.

The Commissioner of Police urged the people to be  calm and go about their normal businesses as the dynamite was just a scare tactic.

“It is a minor explosion in the sense that the damage was very minimal. No loss of life and no injury. But you know that anything that has to do with explosion generate a lot of tension especially at this period. To our own analyses there, it is not the kind of devices the terrorist group use,” he said.

In the meantime normalcy has returned to Ile-Ife as everyone go about their daily activities.
