The National Publicity Secretary of Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), Rotimi Fashakin  while speaking on Channels Television’s breakfast programme, Sunrise Daily quoted “Isaiah 33 verse number 22” of the Holy Bible.

Asked what his opinion was concerning the proposed bill to amend the Nigerian Constitution to a 6-year-single-term arrangement was; Mr Fashakin quoted the bible passage and explained that the fundamentals on legislature, judiciary and executive are firmly entrenched in it.

The Senate committee on the amendment of the constitution, headed by the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, has recommended a six year single term for the president and governors. The proposal however, indicated that serving President and Governors will not benefit from the new proposal.

During an exclusive interview on the programme, he explained that “the business of government is basically about the people;” adding that the proposed bill is an attempt to depreciate the sovereignty of the people.

He related this to the chapter 2 section 14 of the Nigerian Constitution stating that the “Nigerian state shall be built upon the principles of democracy and social justice.”

Mr Fashakin, who was against the bill said it is a ‘bad idea’ and is not in the best interest of the people of Nigeria.
