Nigeria’s Women’s U-17 team, the Flamingoes, have secured a chance to compete at the forthcoming FIFA Women’s U-17 World Cup coming up later in the year in Azerbaijan.
The Flamingoes earned the qualification ticket for defeating their Zambian opponent 6-1 on aggregate.
The young ladies recorded a 4-0 win in the second leg of the qualification match played Saturday evening at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta. They had earlier defeated the Zambians 2-1 in Lusaka.
With this victory Nigeria will now be participating in her third successive World Cups at this level following a successful participation at two previous editions of the women’s World Cup in New Zealand (2008) and Trinidad and Tobago (2010) respectively.
Joining the Flamingoes in Azerbaijan are their Ghanaian counterparts-the Black Maidens-who edged out South Africa earlier on Fridayby 5-1 .
Both team had played out a goalless draw in Daveyton two weeks ag.
Gambia and Tunisia will be slogging it out for last ticket for Africa, ahead of the tournament which comes in September 2012.
