Procuring visa to travel to Nigeria will now be less stressful for visitors, as the Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved a new visa policy that will make it easy for potential foreign investors to have easy access into the country.

Briefing journalists after the council meeting which was chaired by President Goodluck Jonathan, the Minister of Information, Labaran Maku said that the new visa policy will boost tourism and attract targeted foreign direct investment.

He also added that it will enhance the creation of employment opportunities, attract skilled migrant workers and keep the national boundaries more secure.

The Council also approved the establishment of an electronic platform for the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), to improve its management as well as make the health insurance scheme easy.

According to the Minister of Health, Onyebuchi Chukwu, the scheme, which will cost $1.386 million, will be shared by the federal government and World Bank at the ratio of 40-60 percent.

The council also gave approval for major overhaul and restoration of the power plant GT17, Ugheli in Delta state, at the cost of $11.408 million.

The power plant is said to have recorded 45,000 equivalent operating hours which is far in excess of the required 24,000 hours prescribed by the manufacturers, hence the need for the overhaul.
