Jonathan to meet Berom elders

President Goodluck Jonathan is about now holding a meeting with the northern elders from Berom, an ethnic group in Plateau state in the Presidential Villa.

The Berom is one of the groups that has suffered major attacks and killings in the violence that has ravaged the Plateau in the last four years.

Details of the meeting are yet to be disclosed to journalists but the discussion is not likely to be unconnected with the crisis that broke out in the area killing several people including some lawmakers.

It will be recalled that there was total breakdown of law and order in Plateau state following the massacre of more than 140 other persons by suspected herdsmen on July 8th where the Berom people had gathered for the mass burial of 64 persons allegedly killed by the Fulani ethnic militia.

Meanwhile the Special Task Force in charge of peacekeeping in Plateau state, Operation Safe Haven, has reassured residents of the villages which came under attack by suspected herdsmen recently of its commitment to ensuring order with more patrols.

In Bachit, a part of Riyom local government area of the state, the Task Force Commander, Major General Henry Ayoola and the state governor Jonah Jang, encouraged the youths to remain vigilant, form community watch groups and cooperate with security agents.

The state government enjoined residents in the communities to set up vigilante groups to also ensure adequate security.
