President Barack Obama is set to visit Newtown on Sunday, following the killing of 20 children and six women by a gunman at the Sandy Hook school in the town.
All the children who died were aged six and seven, according to an official list and most were girls.
The state’s chief medical examiner said the gunman used a rifle as his main weapon, and all the victims appeared to have been shot several times.
The gunman, named in media reports as Adam Lanza, killed his mother before driving to the school and opening fire, then shooting himself dead.
The children were rescued unharmed, while two suspects were arrested on the spot.
