The Department of State Security (DSS) on Monday paraded one Adelola Tamunotonye Olaore for allegedly threatening to assassinate a senator representing Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District, Aloysius Etok on the orders of persons loyal to the Akwa Governor, Godswill Akpabio.
Parading the suspect in Abuja, the Deputy Director, Public Relations of the DSS, Marilyn Ogar said the suspect, who described himself as General Africa, an ex-militant from Bayelsa state, has been found to be fake as investigations reveals that he never met with the said loyalists of Governor Akpabio neither was he given any mandate to assassinate Senator Etok.
The DSS has however warned members of the public to be wary of individuals who exploit people’s activities for criminal reasons.
Senator Etok during a recent chat with journalists had alleged that Governor Akpabio, was after his life.
He said the plot was connected to his ambition to return to the Senate in 2015.
Governor Akpabio is reportedly interested in the same seat.
According to Senator Etok, “I want the Governor to tell Nigerians and the International Community if there is anything wrong in any man aspiring to contest for an office.
“Is that enough for the Governor to instruct the council chairmen to say that if I don’t withdraw from the contest, that they will recall me?
“He asked the state Assembly to pass a resolution that they will recall me, to the extent that members of the House of Assembly came on television to insult and malign me.
“Not only that, the Governor has now loosened his hit squad, including what I have on this phone – some text messages that if I don’t retract the statement that I will contest election, after seven days, I will see what they will do.”
Senator Etok said Governor Akpabio never consulted him about having an interest in the Senatorial seat.
He recalled that recently, when he appeared on television programme, he was asked some questions concerning the build-up to the Senatorial elections in 2015 vis-a-vis the Governor’s ambition.
“The producer then asked what I wanted to do now that the Governor wants to take my position. I told him that the Governor has not consulted me.
“However, if I am sitting on a seat and somebody is coming to remove me without consultation, I will hold on to the seat even if the seat wants to break.
“I want the Nigerian public to say which of these statements was an insult to the Governor that he and his people said I have dared the Governor for saying I will contest election.
“That was what happened during my second term struggle. As soon as they knew I was going to contest, my wife was kidnapped.
