Rounding off preparations for the FIFA Confederations Cup, host Brazil has officially delivered the final of the six stadiums to be used for the Champion of Champion tournament which will starting early June in the city of Recife.

The inauguration was flagged off by Brazilian President, Dilma Rousseff. The Arena Pernambuco has a capacity of 46,000 and was built at the cost of $530 million reais (about $260 million).

The City of Recife will be playing host to Spain-Uruguay on June 16, Italy-Japan on June 19 and Uruguay-Tahiti on June 23 and will also host World Cup games come the 2014 finals which Brazil is also hosting.

There’s been so much concern coming for the world football governing body, FIFA, on whether the South American country can deliver before the due date, reason for the obvious relief and delight on the part of President Rousseff and FIFA officials.

Focus now shifts to completing the remaining World Cup stadiums, namely the new arena in Sao Paulo, known as “Itaquerao,” which is slated to host the opening match of the 2014 World Cup, with the successfull completion of all six Confederations Cup stadiums.

Arena Pernambuco, like many of Brazil’s other stadiums, failed to meet FIFA’S original deadlines after suffering construction delays and work stoppages over wage disagreements.

Labour disputes appeared to be long forgotten in Recife on Monday as the stadium hosted an exhibition test match with teams made up of construction workers who built the stadium.

Another test match between Nautico and Sporting de Portugal will be played in the new arena later this week.
