The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved the development of phase 4b Port facilities at Onne Oil and Gas Free Zone, Onne Port Complex in Rivers State.

Briefing State House correspondents on the outcome of the meeting on Wednesday, the Minister of Information, Labaran Maku said that the concept of the development of the facilities was to decongest the Lagos and Port Harcourt ports while entrenching Public Private Partnership (PPP) in the establishment and upgrading of public sector facilities.

He said the project was expected to generate 4,000 job opportunities for both professionals during its execution and about 20,000 direct and indirect job opportunities when it is in full operation.

Also approved is the contract for the rehabilitation of the Jebba hydroelectric plant.

A Japanese company is to give the sum of N3.9 billion as grant in aid into the power project, while the federal government is to procure the tools for the overhaul in the sum of N706.9 million counterparts funding.

The Minister of Power, Prof. Chinedu Nebo said that the Jebba power plant will inject 96.4 megawatts of power to the national grid.
