Borno State Governor; Kashim Shettima has approved the supply of one thousand units of street lighting equipment which are to be installed along the streets in different parts of Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

A statement issued by the special adviser to Governor Umar Gusau says the state government’s aim is to remodel the ancient city.

Borno state government, in an agreement signed with Cangzhou Metallic Crafts Limited, a manufacturer of stylish and decorative street lights based in Waligang town, Botou city in Hebei Province of China had governor Shettima and his delegates, who are spending his third day in China, visit the factory to make selections and hold discussions with the company’s top management.

An agreement for the immediate construction of 1,000 units of designed street light poles with lighting facilities to be produced in different shapes and sizes, for export to Borno State within two months was signed by secretary to Borno state Government, Ambassador Baba Ahmed Jidda and chief executive officer, Mr Dhuan Yuhai which are to replace the solar powered lights on the streets that have been problematic after years of experimentation.

The statement also states that though Shettima’s administration is focused on agriculture to generate employment and create wealth, other sectors cannot be neglected hence the decision to look at other opportunities.

The Governor had on Tuesday this week, led the State into discussions with a China based poultry equipment manufacturer with a view to importing customized poultry equipment for the establishment of ultra-modern poultry farms in different parts of Borno State.
