Nigerian striker, Yakubu Aiyegbeni scored his sixth goal of the season for Chinese club, Guangzhou R&F on Sunday in the club’s 2-0 win over Qingdao Jonoon.
Yakubu scored after 75 minutes in a tight game at Yuexiushan as the Chinese Super League entered matchday 19.
The “Yak” received a pass just inside the penalty area and swivelled on a sixpence before driving a low shot into the bottom corner.
A Nigerian was involved in Guangzhou’s second goal but it was not Yakubu.
Former junior international, Gabriel Melkam, who is on the books of Qingdao Jonoon upended Lu Lin in the box allowing Rodriguez de Jesus to emphatically drive home the penalty eight minutes from time.
The win takes Guangzhou R&F to sixth place on the standings with 25 points from 19 matches.
Meanwhile Obafemi Martins continues to impress for Major League Soccer (MLS) club, the Seattle Sounders and is now three shy of double figures this season.
‘Obagol’ opened the scoring with a thumping header for Sigi Schmid’s side in Sunday’s 3-0 win over FC Dallas at the Century Link field, Seattle.
Further goals from Eddie Johnson and Brad Evans completed a comfortable win for Seattle who now move up to seventh on the Western Conference table with 31 points from 20 games.
It was his second goal against FC Dallas this season having netted against them on May 19 at the same venue.
He scored his first MLS goal on April 21 against Colorado Rapids and followed that up with a well-taken goal against the San Jose Earthquakes on May 5.
He scored his fourth goal of the season against Chivas on June 2 before grabbing a brace against DC United on July 4.
