An on-air personality with one of Nigeria’s most popular radio stations, Dotun Orekoya, has attributed his diction to hard work and the determination to be the best at what he does.

On Channels Television programme, Rubbin’ Minds, on Sunday, Dotun said that his popularity, despite being a radio personality, was as a result of the determination to go beyond being behind the scene to being seen.

“The good thing is that we put a face to it. Right now, radio to me is like television. You cannot be behind the scene and stay. Sometime people need to know who they are listening to.  As a radio personality, you have to look good,” he said.

“What makes you a superstar is what you are about and that is what people pay for.  Apart from the fact that you have a great voice on radio, what is your persona?  It was more like going out, putting a face to it and going to any event I feel I needed to be at,” the CoolFM on-air personality said.

Of recent, Dotun won a ‘Locally Acquired Foreign Accent Award’ as a mark of recognition for his outstanding pronunciation skill acquired in Nigeria.

He said that the pronunciation skill was a craft he developed over time.

“It is a job and this is my comfort zone and this has earned me a lot of money. I worked for it. If you are on a platform, you need to sound good and you need to have a good voice.

“Everybody somehow can develop a craft. But beyond the voice, every on-air personality should have something good to offer the listeners,” he insisted.

The radio personality has been featured in Olamide’s album intro, an appearance he also attributed to his voice.

Asked if he would be going into music, he said: “Anything can happen.”
