The Nigerian Police Force is partnering with other security agencies in Plateau State to beef-up security ahead of the New Year celebration.

The Commissioner of Police in the State command, Mr Chris Olakpe, told channels television that the command had put enough personnel and equipment on ground in all the 17 local government councils for a crime free New Year celebration.

He said that the proactive measure was aimed at ensuring that the state witnessed a peaceful celebration, as experienced during the Christmas period.

“The State’s Police Command is partnering with other security agencies especially the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on how to locate hideouts and apprehend drug barons and dealers within the society.

“The New Year will be celebrated without any fear from the men of the underworld. We have highlighted consistent and persistent routes of noted notorious black spots. We are asking members of the public to ‘see something and say something’.

“The NDLEA will help to locate all hideouts of drug dealers and users because we know that there is a relationship between criminality and abuse of drugs particularly psychotropic substances, Indian hemp cocaine and others,” he said.

The command, which is monitoring likely insurgent attacks, is also focusing attention on other criminal activities that can disturb the peace in the local government areas with improved personnel visibility and accessibility.

Mr Chris Olakpe stressed that the issue of security should not be left exclusively for security agents.

“It should be a collaborative effort between the public and police with well-coordinated efforts towards the security of the environment,” he said.
