A bishop of the Living Faith Winners chapel, David Abioye, has commended the Nigerian President, Goodluck Jonathan, on the enactment of an Act banning gay and same sex marriage.

The bishop lent his voice to the commendation at a Sunday service to mark the end of the 2014 fasting and prayers period in the church near the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

Bishop Abioye said that what exalts a nation was righteousness and not international diplomacy and called on the president to strive to do what is right at all times if he wanted Nigeria to be exalted.

Pace Setting Decision

“The decision against same sex marriage is pace setting for nations in Africa and other nations of the world.

“We commend the president for signing the bill that into law. Same Sex marriage is against ethics; it is against tradition; it is against culture, humanity, the will of God and everything. Not once will that evil rise up its head in this country,” he said.

President Jonathan stressed that the prayers of the church had been helpful, assuring the congregation that Nigeria’s challenges would be surmounted.

“We have challenges as a nation and just like bishop said, every other nations pass through stages. Even the most developed countries pass through stages that are sometimes even more challenging than what we are facing today.

He attributed the Super Eagles 4-2 defeat of the Moroccan team at the African Nations Championship holding in South Africa as a sign of good things to come.

“Those of you who watched the match will notice what happened.

“At the beginning it looked like the Eagles were demolished by their opponents but all of a sudden, the young men came very strong and demolished the opponents.

“That will be the story of this great country.

At the beginning, the challenges will look so insurmountable but with your prayers and our commitments, we will get to the destination,” President Jonathan said.

The US, UK, France and Canada are some of the nations that have condemned the Gay Rights Act, insisting that the law is against the rights of individuals to associate.
