Reacting to President Goodluck Jonathan’s declaration of war against terrorism in his Democracy Day broadcast, some residents who spoke to Channels Television said that information and awareness for the masses on security consciousness and self-protection was still missing.
They also said that it was time Government moved away from arms carrying security personnel in the streets to informed but covert security intelligence around the cities at war.
President Goodluck Jonathan, in his speech, indicated that the security agencies now had the authority to do everything possible within the law to not only recover the abducted girls but also to flush out the terrorists.
This came 45 days after the Chibok girls’ abduction which turned the world’s gaze on Nigeria and its efforts to fight almost 5 years of insurgency.
Residents of the Federal Capital Territory have responded by saying that besides empowering the military and other security agencies a lot needed to be done.
Some of them were of the view that important things such as fishing out the sponsors of the insurgents would hasten the fight.
The President has welcomed support from the international community to fight the terrorists, and efforts are intensified daily to that end.
Many Nigerians continually demand for peace and security of lives and property and expectations on Government continue to grow as the days pass by.
