A former Nigerian International, Peterside Idah, has predicted that the Super Eagles will defeat the Argentine team in the last group match of the World Cup.
The Super Eagles will be playing against Argentina on Wednesday in a match they need to win or at least secure a draw to qualify for the round of 16.
Mr Idah stressed the need for the Super Eagles to top the group to ensure that they will meet the second team in Group E.
“We have to beat Argentina so that we will meet Switzerland, which will come second in the group by my prediction. Playing France will be more difficult for Nigeria because they have more of black players.
“When you play against a group with more of blacks the competition is different from when you play with a team with more white people.
“When you see black players play against black players, the competition is different. When we play against the white team, we want to prove a point and it is the psychology of football.
He also stressed the need for Africa to get more slots in the World Cup, insisting that having more teams would give a continent broader opportunity to play. He said that Africa
“It is about the broader picture of other African teams.
“We are asking for more slots but FIFA is saying that we have not gone beyond quarter finals.
“We need more teams in the World Cup and if you watch Europe, there are several teams from Europe and they stand a better chance of winning the cup.
He advised the Super Eagles not to bother about the Iran and Bosnia match.
“Once you hit Argentina, the picture changes. The playing fields are the same and we have to do our best to defeat Argentina. He predicted a 2-1 result in favour of Nigeria.
Mr Idah pointed out that “the aspect of football that has to do with psychology has not been explored by African countries”.
He said media reports of division in the Super Eagles’ camp was not true, describing it as a scoop meant to destabilise the players.
