ndleaAnambra state command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, is catching them young as it embarks on drug demand reduction campaign amongst secondary school students through quiz competition, which has been instituted to be an annual event.

In the 2014 Maiden Event in Awka, the State Commander, Mr. Sule Momodu, says the command is trying to demonstrate among students as well as inculcate in them, that they could be whatever they wish to be without being under the influence of drugs.

Participating schools that performed excellently received rewards while St. John of God’s Secondary School, Awka, emerged the overall winner in the quiz competition.

The preliminary exercise of the quiz competition began 2weeks earlier with 65 secondary schools drawn from the state participating.

The objective of the competition is to engage the attention of students and youths towards being vanguards of a drug free society. According to the NDLEA state commander, drug control comes in two ways, the supply reduction and the demand reduction.

The students were encouraged to be at the fore front of the campaign against illicit drugs and abuse as it increases the rate of crime in the nation which tends to drive investors away.
