Ogoniland-oilspillAmnesty international recently warned that little action has been taken to clean up pollution caused by oil production in the Niger delta region of Nigeria, either by the Nigerian government or shell oil.

The movement for the Survival of Ogoni People (MOSOP) has also criticised the Federal Government, over the non-implementation of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) report, three years after the declaration of environmental-emergency on Ogoniland.

The UNEP conducted an assessment of the environment and public health impact of oil contamination in Ogoni land in the Niger delta region and made several recommendations to the Federal Government, the oil and gas industry and the community to begin a comprehensive clean-up of Ogoniland.

Channels Television had a chat with the Chairman, Senate Committee on Environment, Senator Bukola Saraki, to find out the how far government has gone in implementing the report.
