The Health workers under the aegis of Joint Negotiation Council, LAUTECH Teaching Hospital Osogbo Chapter, paraded within and outside the premises of the hospital in Osogbo with various inscriptions on placards.
For sometime now, health workers have been faced with various challenges and with the peaceful protest they intended to press home their demands which they say has long been overdue.
With various placards reading “Enough is Enough”, “Pay our Salaries”, “We are living in Hunger” and many more, the workers said that they were having outstanding arrears of about N150 million to collect from the Osun State Government which had accumulated since 2013.
They also said pension and free medical care for staff is a germaine issue that needs to be attended to by the government and the hospital.
The Chief Medical Director of the teaching hospital, Prof Femi Fadiora, while appealing to the workers, however made it clear that the issue of pension was already receiving positive attention as it was before the State House of Assembly.
With these assurance, the workers expressed hope that something positive would be done. They have given the government till Tuesday, otherwise the union would embark on a strike.
