Some Boko Haram terrorists fleeing from towns in Nigeria’s north-east have been killed in Gombi in Adamawa State by Nigerian troops.
The terrorists were killed while attempting to enter Gombi town in Gombi Local Government Area on Monday evening.
They were engaged by troops of 23 Brigade Nigerian Army in a gun battle that led to killing of quite a number of them, destruction and recovery of vehicles, motorcycles, various calibre of weapons and ammunition.
Some of the items recovered from the terrorists were four Hilux vehicles, three Anti-Aircraft guns, one .50 inch Browning Machine Gun, 5,000 rounds of 12.7 millimetre ammunition, two boxes of .50 inch ammunition, 1,000 rounds of Light Machine Gun ammunition, one Rocket Propelled Grenade 7 tube, and one General Purpose Machine Gun.
A statement by a military spokesman, Colonel Sani Usman, said one soldier was wounded in the encounter and he was responding to treatment.
“Troops are mopping up the area to prevent further incursions by the terrorists,” the statement read.
Since Nigeria’s general elections was shifted by six, the military has increased offensive against the Boko Haram terrorists in the oil rich nation’s north-east, reclaiming over 30 communities from the terrorist group.
The Boko Haram group is seeking the establishment of an Islamic State and an end to western education in the region.
