KanoThousands of police officers have been deployed for the conduct of the governorship and House of Assembly elections in Kano State, North-West Nigeria.

Addressing reporters shortly after the Inter-Agency Consultative Security Meeting on Elections, the State Police Commissioner, Ibrahim Idris, said that the officers are to ensure a peaceful conduct of the polls on Saturday, April 11.

Despite the success recorded during the presidential elections, Mr. Idris said that security agencies in Kano are not taking any chances in ensuring that no one interferes with the electoral process.

Many Kano residents, who have commended the Police for their role in the success of the presidential elections, have also said that they expect more proactive measures to curtail the excesses of some political party supporters.

Meanwhile, during a meeting with the Divisional Police Officers, the Police Commissioner also urged them to ensure that the elections are successful.

In another development, the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in Kano, Mr. Hussaini Halilu, says distribution of materials would be done on Thursday and Friday.

In the meantime, the Police have directed the restriction of movement from 6am to 5pm on Saturday and Sunday.
