Nyesom Wike Wins Rivers State Governorship Election

The Candidate of the People Democratic Party (PDP), Nyesom Wike, has been declared the winner of the governorship election in Rivers State by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Mr Wike defeated the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Mr Dakuku Peterside, with a total of 1,029,102 votes. Mr Peterside polled 124,896 votes.

Mr Peterside has complained of some electoral malpractices by INEC officials, accusing them of being partisan and has promised to go to the tribunal.

After the result was announced, the PDP said the election was free and fair.

Mr Wike was in 2011 appointed as the Minister of Education but resigned in 2014 to pursue his governorship aspiration.
