Afghan Troops ‘killed By Us Friendly Fire’ In Logar

At least 18 Afghan soldiers have been killed in a US air strike on an army checkpoint in Logar province south of Kabul.

Logar is an unsettled area where much of the countryside is controlled by the Taliban.

Officials say two US helicopters attacked the checkpoint in broad daylight on Monday, leaving several others injured.

According to the media reports, the Army Commander in the area said the checkpoint was clearly flying an Afghan flag.

General Abdul Raziq said: “It seems the attack was carried out mistakenly on army forces, and an investigation is ongoing to find its reason”.

Authorities are yet to confirm the source of the attack, although local witnesses says Monday’s strike was carried out by international forces.

The latest violence comes amid an increase in Taliban attacks on government and foreign targets.
