GabrielArsenal’s appeal against defender Gabriel’s red card during Saturday’s defeat by Chelsea has been upheld.

The Football Association announced on Tuesday that Arsenal’s claim of wrongful dismissal has been accepted and Gabriel’s three-match ban has been withdrawn.

Gabriel, 24, was sent off by referee Mike Dean for kicking out at Chelsea forward Diego Costa after a clash and was subsequently charged for violent conduct.

However, the Brazilian is subject to a separate Football Association charge of improper conduct for his reaction after being shown the red card by referee Mike Dean, to which he has until 18:00 BST on Thursday to respond.

Gabriel did not leave the pitch immediately after receiving his red card but his successful appeal on violent conduct means he will not serve a three-match suspension.
