Eaglets The Golden Eaglets on Monday retained their U-17 World Cup title after beating African champions Mali 2-0 in the final in Chile.

Victor Osimhen and Funsho Bamgboye struck in the 56th and 59th minutes to put Nigeria ahead.

Osimhen scored his 10th goal of the tournament breaking the record the  by Florent Sinama-Pongole and Coulibaly, who scored nine goals each in previous tournaments.

The Nigerian teenagers have had previous successes at China 1985, Japan 1993, Korea Republic 2007 and UAE 2013. In addition, they finished as runners-up at Canada 1987, Trinidad and Tobago 2001 and Nigeria 2009.

The 2015 edition’s final was the second all Africa final after Nigeria beat Ghana in Japan 1993.

Belgium won the third place by defeating Mexico 3-2.

Eaglets Coach, Emmanuel Amuneke, told FIFA.com after the match, “We have worked very hard for this success and we hope to continue.

“The players will go home now but their journey is not over yet. I have football in my blood, as a player and as a coach. This is what I want to pass to my players.”
