Faleke, Bello Supporters Clash Over Kogi Governorship Ticket

Battle for the Kogi State All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship ticket thickens, as supporters of James Faleke and Yahaya Bello clash at the party’s secretariat in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.

The party’s National Working Committee members, reporters and visitors at the secretariat have been held hostage by feuding youths.

Faleke was the running mate to late Prince Abubakar Audu and wants the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to declare him winner of the governorship election.

The INEC had declared the November 21 election inconclusive, saying that the margin in the number of votes garnered by the APC’s candidate, late Audu and the runner-up, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party and the incumbent Governor, Captain Idris Wada, was less than the number of votes cancelled.

Bello is being pushed by some leaders of the party to take the governorship ticket, having taken part in all processes during the primaries of the party.

The feuding youths are said to be hauling stones at the secretariat building and passers-by.
