Nasarawa communal crisisNormalcy is yet to return to Ogufa village in Loko Development Area of Nasarawa State where crisis broke out some weeks ago that resulted to the death of 16 people, 16 injured persons and over 60 houses burnt.

Residents are still apprehensive, with many still afraid of going back to their homes.

To reassure the residents of the government’s support and commitment to ensuring their safety, a lawmaker representing the area, Mohammed Okpoku, visited the village.

After taking a record of the level of destruction, he assured the residents that the perpetrators would be brought to book.

He also appealed to the people of Ogufa to return to their home and promised that the government would ensure adequate security of their lives and property.

The lawmaker also assured them that they would get relief materials soon.

Ogufa village has a population of over 10,000 who are predominantly farmers. The crisis has left many of them displaced.

The village used to be one of the peaceful settlements in the area before crisis broke out some weeks ago resulting in the deaths and destruction of large amount of farm produce.

Narrating the incident, an eyewitness, Solomon Osayi, said the crisis began after an Agatu man called Sani from Ayele, a neighbouring village, was killed.

Devastating attacks and reprisal attacks in Nasarawa State and other neighbouring states call for urgent government attention at both levels to nip the menace in the bud.
