They also decried the shortage of manpower at government hospitals across the state and the refusal of the state government to pay their relativity.

At a press briefing on Monday after the emergency meeting of the association in Abeokuta, the capital of the state, the doctors said the planned industrial action became imperative in view of the alleged unconcerned attitudes of the government to their demands.

Reacting to the development, the state Commissioner for Health, Mr Babatunde Ipaye, said government was not unmindful of their demands.

Mr Ipaye asked the doctors to show better understanding in the face of the state’s current financial challenges.

He also asked them to be more productive in their duties to justify government’s investment in the sector.
