Edo Voters, security concerns, edo electionAs Ogun State kick starts its Local Government (LG) elections on Saturday, accreditation and voting have commenced simultaneously in the 20 LGs and 37 Local Council Development Areas of the state.

Channels Television crew monitors the polls in Abeokuta, the state’s capital in southwest Nigeria.

The exercise witnessed relatively large turnout of voters in some of the polling centres while few electorates showed up at some other centres.

The exercise has been described as peaceful so far as residents vote their representatives at the grassroots without any hitch.

The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, who monitored the process, expressed satisfaction with the level of comportment.

As early as 8:00 am, eligible voters were seen casting their vote while security personnel were deployed at strategic places to sustain the peaceful conduct of the elections.

However, there was disagreement among some party agents and the presiding officer at a polling unit in Ita Eko, over the simultaneous accreditation and voting strategy adopted by the electoral body.

At some other polling units, accreditation and voting started behind schedule, a situation attributed to the mix up in the materials taken to the voting centres.

Results of the exercise is expected from different LGs and LCDAs later in the day.
